To me it maybe could have been that none of the guys hired during the 90's were players coaches. Thats hurts in recruiting and also for players laying it out on the field like they did for Les and even more with Coach O . I guess that wasnt the case with saban but the players respected him and he is probably the best college coach to ever coach college football. thats all i got

Horrible leadership. That lead to all kinds of wrong decisions and coaching hires.

The potential was there but many Louisiana stud players were playing elsewhere and with good reason.

Curley Hudson Hallman. 4 straight loosing seasons (91-95), last I heard, had a stint at a Class 1 or 2A HS in Alabama and got fired after "4 straight loosing seasons".

Stop and think about that for a second.

DiNardo was a big upgrade over Mike Archer and Curly Hallman. He actually had a few winning seasons, won 3 bowl games, including beating Notre Dame and a Saban coached Michigan State team.

He left LSU in much better shape than he inherited.

Dinardo, while ultimately a failure, started us down the road to where we are today.

He was indeed an improvement. What did DiNardo in was his hiring of Lou Tepper as DC in 98 and keeping him even when our defense went to complete shite the last two years.

Problem with tepper was his system took 5 years to learn. Worse DC LSU ever had.

The same reason UT has been shite for a decade plus....Fulmer on the downside..Kiffin...Dooley...and Botch Jones destroyed the program. Pruitt took over a program that had mid level DII talent at most positions.

They retired Charley Mcclendon and hired the presumed next Nick Saban, and he mysteriously died on a recruiting trip when a plane just flew off into the ocean, ( probably killed by some rogue REC member) after only being there 6 weeks. It was Devastating. Was too late to hire anyone else. (There is a 30 for 30 on it)

Then it was a serious batch of bad hires.

And track and field. But yes LSU was run into the ground by Joe Dean. Could not hire coaches or upgrade outdated facilities

Joe Dean was cheap and didn’t believe in paying more money for good coaches, or really anything for that matter

The story begins and ends right here.

Joe Dean makes Joe Alleva look like Jeremy Foley
