Why I haven’t watched Basketball for years

Just now tried to watch. But what I see
Not dribbling the ball. Palming the ball.
Traveling all the time not being called.
Three seconds violations in the paint if you can find the paint.
Everybody is a three point expert and cost their team victory.
A clown show where rules do not apply anymore. I wonder why?

Thanks for the update. I was just wondering why you weren't watching basketball anymore.

You just have to adjust to the fact that they're not going to make this call. Ever, in any circumstance. It's not that they are soft about it. They just literally don't call it.

Sounds like you’ve been unhappy since the civil war ended.

Don't watch the NBA then. It's even worse. Three point chucking non sense. Soft arse big men. A generation of kids that grew up watching LeBron and the flop fest hasn't stopped. AWFUL
College basketball still has teams that utilize post play and teams that play great defense.

I can't stand it when players drive the lane and initiate the contact, but the defender gets called for the foul. Is the defender just supposed to step out of the way?

Thanks for letting us know.

Now that is a term I have not heard in years. Obi Wan Kenobe.

The LeBron effect. Instead of perfecting one's craft of shooting the basketball, lets force the refs to bail us out with free throws.

Also the LeBronze effect is flopping on the defensive end looking for the refs to bail your lack of lateral quickness out.

Has absolutely nothing to do with it. This is basketball in 2026 across the Country.

I've hated on college basketball for most of hte last 20 years, because college basketball was hard to watch up until around last season. The floor spacing and pace of play was brutal. Players had gotten too long and too athletic to play the old style and make it consumbalble for anybody other than college basketball junkies.
But enough coaches have either died, retired, quit, been fired or force to reassess things that it's gotten a lot better and the court is more wide open and scoring is up.
Way fewer coaches micormanaging and instead letting the kids play. The coach at Miami-Ohio is probably the case study. Georgia is doing the same thing. Georgia scored 75 points in the final 25 minutes of the game last Saturday. It was pretty incredible.
At Xavier, Steele was often viewed as a "micromanager" who called specific plays on almost every possession, but at Miami, he has completely flipped that script.
He has moved to what he calls a "Conceptual Offense," which is essentially a set of rules and spacing principles rather than rigid, scripted plays.
How He Changed the Game
Play-Calling: He has gone on record saying he "never" ran this type of system at Xavier. Now, instead of calling a play from the sideline, he gives his players "freedom in variance." He teaches them how to play rather than what play to run, which makes them much harder to scout..
Up-and-Down Pace: The results are in the numbers. His 2025-26 Miami team is averaging nearly 91 points per game (ranking 2nd in the country), compared to the 70–75 point range his Xavier teams usually sat in.

I watch but only if I have a rooting interest. It isn’t good to watch. What is legal in terms of dribbling changed a long time ago. You can’t get called for carrying the ball any longer. It would have to be a walk. Carrying is legal. But what makes the game boring is the 30 second clock where everyone has to play the same style and same pace. No more strategy on the offensive end. Clock dictates the way you play. I understand the need for a clock. Money. Can’t afford an all out stall game. But a 45 second clock would make the game cleaner and more strategic.

No doubt... What I hate the most is when the offensive player rams his shoulder into the defenders chest two or three times and the defender gives a little bit. Then on the fourth shoulder ram... the defender holds his ground... and they call the foul on the defender.
I've started calling them "chest" fouls.
IMO a guy should only get one shoulder ram. Because ostensibly it could be an accident. But a double ram should be a foul on the offensive guy because he is clearly ramming on purpose.
