You being in a conference that had soccer and it being a cheap sport to maintain so it probably didn’t get cut is a stupid take? Y’all need to drop that acc Jan Brady schtick, like you said it was forever ago.

In the opulent 80s, schools were ADDING women's sports about as fast as they could for Title IX. Guess as we've gotten so ridiculously opulent on football that it's no longer possible to maintain a balance by spending more on women.

I'm really hoping that the SEC adds women's flag football soon. It has become very popular in the high schools. Do I want to watch this crap? Hell no, but it would free up schollys for Men's soccer.

Not sure..would think it is just a way to even out the ratio of Male-Female sports.

Title IX is not preventing any school from adding any sport. It’s just a matter of priorities and preferences.

Or they could add more sports; it doesn’t mean they have to cut anything. Title IX just means they have to have equal scholarship opportunities.

Right. So they would have to add more money sinking women's programs.
Since we are living in reality instead of a pedantic hypothetical, Title IX prevents departments from having mens soccer because in order to add it they would have to eliminate sports or add ones in which there is zero interest.
Title IX is a weird hill to die on or defend. It has no legitimate purpose.

A JUCO in GA is adding women's flag football. It doesn't have to be expensive.
Make choices.
Also, make better decisions, such as not signing coaches to contracts that force you to pay them millions after they have been fired.

We came from being an independent....Our previous coach who quit just a few years ago was the club soccer coach when it transitioned from a club sport, which it did years after we left the ACC

How do you cut a sport that SC didnt play? So yes it was a stupid take because a simple search shows our program was founded several years after left....

Every SEC team does have women’s soccer because of Title IX. Football eats up most of the places for men’s sports.
Even at universities that do have men’s scholarship soccer teams, those scholarships are usually not even full scholarships.
If a university is private, they can have whatever men’s or women’s sports they want because they don’t (generally) have to deal with Title IX

A fairer question for UK is why don't we have an equestrian team.
If ANYONE in the United States would have one, you would assume it would be us. I've never heard why we don't.
As for men's soccer, I don't care about soccer, but the answer has been said ad nauseum in here and a couple dumbasses don't want to listen. Title IX. We added men's soccer to offset. It's not rocket science.
Apparently we had an excellent wrestling team back in the day before Title IX. Why that went bye bye and soccer came along, I have no idea. I'm sure men's soccer got added years after Title IX in order to accommodate the addition of a woman's sport, and they thought soccer is growing and it made more sense than bringing back wrestling. I have no idea.
IMO Title IX is good and bad. Do I care about women's sports at all? No. But plenty of girls want to play them and that's good. I like that they are competitive and want to be active. I just don't like that it becomes mandatory to sink money into an enterprise that loses money, in age where it's all about money/revenue/paying the players.
It's not as if I like us having to sink money into men's tennis or golf or whatever either. I don't watch or care about those teams either. This is coming from someone who grew up with, was friends with, and hung out with the sons of the swimming coach and tennis coach at UK.
Ultimately, it should be about the schools providing extracurricular avenues for men and women to compete outside the classroom. Money and greed have ruined things. I don't have an issue with girls having avenues to compete, because sure, they deserve them. It'd be nice if these decisions didn't have to be made based on finances, or through government intervention/compulsion.
But such is the era we live in.

SC's is indeed a carryover from the ACC tenure.
When we were independent, the team was still pretty successful, all things. Developed some legit USMNT players like Brad Guzan, Josh Wolff, and Clint Mathis.
But the program is in the doldrums right now. It had strong support when I was in undergrad, and I enjoyed going to games.
