Why do people support LSU when Baton Rouge is such a nasty place?

This is not a troll. Genuine curiosity.
Why do people support the area and university when it is not a nice place and is trending the wrong direction?
I know I know but Arkansas. Half of Arkansas is very nice and growing. Louisiana is not.
Is it something people are used to or are they trying to keep the area alive and save it?

NW Arkansas is nice. Incredible mountain biking too.

BTR is very nice but it is one of those cities where the “money” keeps moving further out and the inner city is very blighted. What was hot 20 yrs ago is forgotten today.

Lots of folks still go to Jackson and it's probably worse than Baton Rouge. When you've been attending games there for years, I suspect they know where to go and not go.

The fit non-fatties who like the outdoors, and who want to have fun with their kids, grandkids, and friends.
We have great mountain biking in the foothills and mountains of NC where I live now, with more trails going in pretty frequently…

Louisiana is a culturally rich state. The people in New Orleans and in Acadiana have a deep connection to place and to the unique French and creole culture. The food, the music and language. They're never happy living anywhere else.
I was in Lafayette this weekend. It's a great small city with some of the friendliest people I've ever met.
Baton Rouge is quite different. The main reason I'd never live there is the traffic. It's unbearable coming over the bridge and on weekdays back and forth from the bridge to Denham Springs. Major problem.

It was a legit question and as expected nobody gives a real answer. I would have highlighted the fishing opportunities but to each their own.

Baton Rouge is a nice place with the exception of a certain part to the north. You can always identify the poors who have never been able to afford a ticket to a road game.

As much as people here love to hate, Baton Rouge is a great southern town.
I’ve been to every state and pretty much all of the largest 100 cities. When my job allowed me to live anywhere, we moved to Baton Rouge. My Georgia peach UGA grad wife loved it here. When I was offered a job in Atlanta she refused to move.
The people are great, the nice areas are great. Everyone here judges Baton Rouge based on the parts no one ever drives thru.

I support LSU because I grew up in Louisiana, just like you probably grew up in Arkansas and support your team. Like any city the size of Baton Rouge, there are some rough areas, but there are also many good ones, so I respectfully disagree with the idea that it’s a nasty place. I live here and, like anywhere else I’ve lived, I try to make the best of it.
Louisiana also has a lot to offer—plenty of outdoor activities, the River Road plantations, the French Quarter in New Orleans, and Natchitoches, especially during Christmas. There are also great restaurants and many other things to enjoy. And according to the latest statistics, Louisiana has even seen a slight population increase, so there are clearly people who don’t think it’s such a bad place to live.
