Could the difference really be the difference between the SWC and the big 8?
I didn't live in Texas then and was also young so I am just asking, but perhaps this is it? SWC, being just schools in Texas and Arkansas, generated a lot more animosity as alums from the entire conference rubbed shoulders in the same cities? Also the chief source of Mizzou hate is Kansas, and they are currently completely without hope of ever being relevant in football. Texas still has the spectre of a return because of all the money they can throw at it.

Mizzou could care less about an SEC championship because the fans know their role against teams like Alabama. As long as they keep winning the SEC East and obtain bragging rights,, their fans will be content.
This. And it is unlikely Missouri will win the SEC East for a while since TN has a loaded roster of young talent, Georgia will have a monstrous rushing attack. KY will be average, South Carolina will suck, Florida is garbage right now and Vandy is an FCS level team.

The AGs help create the SEC's 600 million dollar problem with the SECN. I'm sure they're hating life with all this money to lap the field again.
I bet OU wouldn't have had to greatly reduce their big stadium plans if they had a network paying that 10s of millions for third tier TV rights.

That's got to be 80% of it. You can see in the prior post with the Mizzou guy going after OU. Why wouldn't they, given their football history against OU?

Oh, I don't know...bowl wins are nice too.
But, you know what's really nice? All that SECN money rolling in. I'd hate for my alma mater to be stuck in the mud without a conference network.
However, OU does get the privilege of competing against the whorns every year...I'm sure the trade off is worth it. I know Arkansas enjoyed last year's bowl game against them.

It's not a coincidence that after leaving the Big 12 my hatred of Kansas has faded, but my opinion of Texas has declined. I don't "hate" Texas because my feelings just aren't that strong, but Texans are the most whiny, self-important people in the country.
