re: Why didn't any of the major programs steal Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss?

All y’all talking about his “immaturity.”
The recruits love it. He's able form a connection with recruits just by them following Kiffin on Twitter. The recruits love the trolling. They understand that social media is unforgiving and at times you will say or post something you'll regret later on.
They understand that Kiffin's popcorn comment backfired and compare it to a time where they said they made some outrageous claim like "I'm gonna throw for 600 on that soft arse secondary Friday night" only to get embarrassed. They like the swagger.
It is the older Gen Xers and Boomers who take issue with it. The younger generation accepts it for what it is.

Yea I just replied to you since yours was the last post. I know you weren’t saying that. I was speaking to the room. I agree.

This is a bullshite cop out excuse. Kelly has no ties what so ever to the SEC footprint and LSU just fired a guy who was the epitome of a "cultural fit".
Counterpoint: LSU's last two hires were mediocre to average coaches who were perfect cultural fits and they won nattys. We have no idea what Kelly's tenure will look like. I used to think cultural fit was overrated but Mullen, Kiffin, and Harsin have changed my mind. Mullen was a great cultural fit at MSU but not a good fit at Florida. Kiffin is a great cultural fit for Ole Miss, and Harsin seems like a bad one for Auburn.

I'm older, and it doesn't bother me.
I also understand that with a program like Ole Miss, he feels that he has to generate some buzz. I don't think he did so much of that at USC, and I don't think he would at Alabama.

He generates buzz by existing. He has fun and takes things lightly. He treats it as a game. It's the Dabo Swinney approach vs the Saban approach. Seems genuine and OM enjoys it because we tend not to take the games too seriously due to long streaks of poor on field performances. He can thrive and will get cut slack when things don't always go our way.
As another poster mentioned the fans @ Bama, LSU, etc.. would be frothing and stabbing each other with some of Lane's risks

Don't ever make the mistake of thinking Saban doesn't have fun with his players. The video clips of him celebrating with them in the locker room...like last Saturday...are pretty legendary with Alabama fans, as are the videos of getting the players out on the lake. I will say that I think he's gotten better at that over the years. But he's a great example of how you can take your business very seriously, work really hard, and still have a lot of fun.

Like this actually means something or is even provable. They were good for the year they were in.
The amount of NFL talent on that roster (2001 Miami) is unbelievable. There's an objective measure for you.

I think he feels like he has to do more of that at Ole Miss.
And trust me...Bama fans do plenty of frothing and stabbing when Saban takes 3 time-outs into the locker room at halftime.

He's just showing he's going to buck old stagnant methodology and do things his way. With the more talent he brings in the more successful he will be at it.

On the day of Brian Kelly's introductory press conference, the longest thread on the first page is about Lane Kiffin

It will be a cold day in hell before Lane Kiffin runs out the clock from his own 20 with 1:00 left in the half and three timeouts in his pocket.

A few things. Miami is sitting on arguably the best youth football in the U.S. The players are there.
Miami has nice facilities that were upgraded a few years ago. But, the big issue with Miami is will they pay big money. Up until now they haven't. But, Miami has the money to pay. If Miami pays the money for a Kiffin or Cristobal and provides a high staff budget a lot of head coaches in the SEC will have harder jobs because they won't pull out of South Florida like they have been doing.

Lane can be patient. Texas will open soon and Bama will open one day.

I'd love him at UF but I just don't think he'd stay long enough before going back to the NFL.

If Kiffin wanted to go back to the NFL I think he would've went back long ago. Kiffin likely has more or just as many relationships in the NFL as he does in college football.

you're out of your mind if you think Saban is going to coach till he dies.

All of this is true. I like having Kiffin in the conference, even if it means Ole Miss is a thorn in our side. I think Kiffin is a dang good football coach. If Miami hires a competent AD like Jurich, they will make some bold moves in football.
I visited Louisville pre-Jurich, and the facilities were just OK. After Jurich arrived, the facilities exploded. They are excellent now. If an AD like Jurich takes the reigns and invests in facilities like he did at Louisville, that could be a big draw for Kiffin. Not saying he would leave, but under the right circumstances, any SEC coach would. (Except Saban, Smart, or Pittman, of course.)

I agree completely with you. If Jurich is named the AD at Miami (or FSU b/c they have an AD opening) look out!

Kiffin is the same age as me, a late GenXer. Lane Kiffin to me is the embodiment of GenX.
