A & M tried to copy Hawaii, but the Rainbow Warriors gig’d that notion.

Yeah and I've always why the Reds copied the Bears logo
This would have worked better had you reversed the two.

That's like saying you didn't plagiarize because you rearranged the sentence structure.
Except, UGA thought to ask for permission and it wad granted, the the pro team decided ours was better and plagiarized us
True story

The reason certain uniforms, fonts, etc. get copied is because they look good. It’s not rocket science.

Because they're trash. G stands for Garbage.

Correct and it's also letter in the alphabet and a font
which have been used or "copied" since they were invented.

Nope....
Michigan and other helmets of that design are simply mimicking the leather padding of the leather helmets of the day.

Why did Georgia ask for permission?

God I’m ready for the season to get here.

Because we aren't swamp trash. Didn't want someone to think we stole their logo and made it better. Didn't work for some low IQ individuals.

"Princeton's orange and black "Tiger Helmet" is a distinctive piece of the University's sports tradition. Designed by legendary Hall of Fame coach Herbert O. "Fritz" Crisler and first worn by the undefeated national championship team of 1935, this colorful headgear is a link to one of the great eras in the heralded football history of Old Nassau.
"The helmet was styled to represent a fighting tiger with its ears glared back and three symbolic orange-stripes running sleekly from front to back and matches the traditional tiger striping on the jersey. At a time when all helmets were similar, Coach Crisler thought that this highly visible emblem would help quarterbacks more readily find their downfield receivers.
"When Crisler left Princeton in 1938, he took the helmet design with him to Michigan, where in maize and blue it became an icon of that university's football program. This distinctive helmet design which originated at Princeton - where intercollegiate football was born - is a reminder to students, alumni, fans and worthy opponents of all the great Tiger players who ever proudly represented Old Nassau on the gridiron." -Princeton.edu

you certainly aren't a student of history. the university of Georgia predates the green bay packers by over 50 years. it is the packers that copied UGA's logo.

Green Bay designed their G in 1961 and trademarked it.
The image rmnldr posted was not the final design but rather a rough sketch of it by John Gordon. She is wrong when she says Green Bay copied Georgia.
Here is the pre-1961 design:
Concept Sketch with more of an oval/football shape
Logo as it was trademarked in 1961 with less pronounced football shape:
as it appeared on helmets in 1961:
[/img]
and the 1980 update which added the gold outline
Georgia's logo as of 1964
Most of the sources you're going to find that say "Georgia's was different and they asked for permission out of courtesy" are going to be Atlanta News Organizations and UGA itself to downplay the unoriginality of it all. Anyone can tell that it's essentially a copy and the United States Patent and Trademark Office has asserted as much when they denied Grambling's attempt to trademark their version in 1998. Green Bay has held the trademark since 1961, UGA and Grambling use it under license. LINK
Now as to why they did it?
For the same reason Hayden Fry chose to copy elements of the Steelers uniforms in 1979 and Barry Alvarez used some of Nebraska's aesthetics. The Packers won back-to-back NFL Championships in '61 & '62. Georgia wanted to channel some of Green Bay's success in to their own team.
