Maybe because of the source’s reputation...and maybe because after Propst is on tape naming names and programs, he turns around and does this:

From ESPN:

Sources told ESPN that Propst has provided Alabama and Georgia officials with affidavits in which he denied having personal knowledge of recruiting violations committed by either program.

Because they realize it's a tape of Propst trying to con the guy out of money by using big school names.

And the other voice on the tape said this about it...

"This isn't about (college) recruiting, this is about money being diverted into (Propsts') back pocket....There's nothing to all that other stuff. There's no way the NCAA tries to make anything out of all of this. I don't see how they could

Exactly. This bears repeating.

Cry about it.

Bama has suffered more penalties in the last 25 years than LSU with far less egregious acts we are all aware of.

Because anyone with more brain cells than a head of cabbage knows that Rush Propst is full of shite.

Seriously...it take a whole 'nother level of stupid to believe anything that asswipe says.

So where does that put you, OP?

You mean the guy who had two families and lost his job as a high school coach due to proven corruption? That guy is accusing people of cheating?"

The guy who was wanting to pay players funny money to come play for Valdosta?

WAIT - that "Funny Money" according to Rush demanded that he have $10,000 in his desk drawer at all times.

Dude was behind on two mortgages, admitted to financial struggles to the AJC and said he and Stefnie (yes that's her name) were working on their problems.

He was the highest paid HS coach in the State of Georgia and he still misused money at Colquitt and at Valdosta, and stole from the HS Booster Clubs at both places.

Now Valdosta has placed him on administrative leave and he'll be kicked to the curb once again and will face charges for misuse of school funds.

...so a reporter would probably have to dig first to find actual evidence, then go ask questions about what they found.

Ahhh, you mean real journalism? Is that even a thing anymore?

Real journalists have an obligation to look into the matter. If there's nothing there, there's nothing there, but you have to at least look into the matter. As far as Propst denying the matter, what do you think he's going to do now? He didn't know he was being recorded and now he's covering his arse!

The reality is Propst was telling the truth because it's well known who the money guys are at Alabama and have been for years. I'm not familiar with the Georgia program, but Smart learned from Saban so I have no doubt he's paying players too!

My point is real journalists go after the story and aren't afraid to dig around and ask the tough questions. Sports writers these days are nothing more than glorified fans that enjoy the freebies and close contact they have with their favorite team's HC!

LSU doesn't want to open this can of worms, trust me. LSU boosters pay players a lot of money.

Maybe we should all just accept that we're being out coached and out played, and out recruited too ?

To claim nefarious actions as an excuse seems weak to me.

The media would rather circle jerk themselves after Saban answers one of their soft questions. What can you expect from pussies like Wolken, Barrett, and the biggest pussy of all, Forde.

Like it or not legendary coaches get the benefit of the doubt unless there are blatant, egregious easily provable rules violations.

Same reason in basketball for example that Coach Wooden at UCLA, Coach K at Duke, Roy Williams at UNC, Coach Knight at Indiana, etc never get or got looked at really closely when rivals questioned some of their recruiting tactics. Coaches that have never had a provable reputation of cheating and that are legends get the benefit of the doubt.

And if you follow politics, the favoritism is WAY WAY worse than any supposed sports favoritism.. Legitimate wrongdoing is completely excused if you have a D next to your name.

Because Saban is untouchable at Bama.

Smart will get hammered at some point as will Bama post-Saban.

Wow. Kirby Smart is an okay coach but you seem to be giving him WAY more accolades than deserved. Step back, take a deep breath, and reassess things a bit.
