The first house my dad remembers living in, had no AC.
He said during summer they threw off the covers to sleep. They didn’t know about AC in a house, so there was nothing to compare it to.
I can imagine sleeping like that as a kid. Very little body mass to hold heat, and I generally slept much better when I was young.

Seems like if you need to get down from a mountain, gravity will do that for you. And also take care of the altitude sickness.
