Who has the better defense between 2019 LSU and 2020 Bama?

I get lsu is insecure their team was bad the Covid year so they push the asterisk, but I’m actually curious on the defense ranks bc both offenses were great.

No. We push the asterisk bc 60 out of 120 teams actually played a full schedule of football.

The runner up that year was 7 win ohio state.

Its actually kind of an insult to hold that team in the same light as the other Alabama champions, who accomplished much more.

They went 13-0. 11-0 vs the SEC. 2-0 vs ND and Ohio State.

What other fan base besides LSU argues your point?

LSU went 11-0 vs P4’s. 3-0 vs G5s.

Both pretty close.

2020 Alabama

I'd go with 2015 Alabama if we never start Cooper Bateman. The defense on that team was special, and Henry was a beast putting up 200+ yards in multiple big games late in the season. Games are won and lost on the line and they dominated on both sides of the line.

The Ole Miss blemish keeps them out of many discussions rightfully, but if looking at teams in their strengths, they have a good case.

I'm not buying the 2019 LSU claim. That's not to say they weren't a great team or great season. I just don't see how they hold up to some of these other teams defensively. We are rating them against playing other champions rather than the season they had, right?

Except one faced teams that installed gameplans over zoom

We all were there, you dont have to gaslight. Im not going to pretend its was a normal season when half of all college football players didnt play.

Not everyone sucked. What other SEC fan base agrees with you guys? Never seen anyone else make your argument except LSU.

2016 Bama

They’d be in the discussion for greatest team of all time if Steve Sarkisian didn’t call the national championship like an alcoholic going through withdrawals (too soon?) They beat Clemson like a drum if they just ran the ball. Hurts had no business throwing the ball 30 times that game.

The defense scored almost every game and they averaged 7 points a game NON OFFENSIVELY. Something we will probably never see again.

Outside of their weird voodoo game agaisnt Hugh Freeze’s offense and Clemson having infinity plays bc Sarkisian is a bum, no one could do a thing against their defense. Hurts being a freshman and having freshman moments probably keeps them from beating the top team but they are up there with that D.

Alabama’s 2020 SOS=9.72 SRS=30.26 obviously trumps LSU’s 2019 SOS=6.60, SRS=25.80. Wow, the Alabama schedule was almost 50% tougher.

It surprised me at first that Alabama was so far ahead in SOS & SRS, but it makes perfect sense when you realize that 2020 Alabama became the first team in history to beat 13 P5 teams, with no team coming within 2 TDs except Florida in SECC who tacked on a TD with ~2 min left and went for 2 to make it a 6 pt game. OTOH, LSU had 3 games within 1 score including 5 loss Texas and 4 loss AU @ home by 3 pts. 3-9 Vandy put up 38 on them. LSU played 3 non P5 teams, Alabama 0. Alabama became the only team in history to beat 11 SEC teams. And this was when the SEC was undisputedly the best conference in the country.

I had been surprised that Bill Connelly and other advanced metrics gurus considered Alabama the greatest of all time. But upon further review it seems obvious now. But frankly both offenses were a blast to watch. Smith, Jones, Waddle, Metchie, Najee Harris, Dickerson, Brian Robinson, et al. and Burrow, Chase, Jefferson , Helaire, et al.

Even the D wasn’t bad with Barmore, Mathis, Eboigbe, Christian Harris, Will Anderson, Pat Surtain, Jobe, Moore, Battle. All NFL starters at one time or another. Many still doing so. Maybe not quite Miami 2001 but not bad.

Crushed the playoff competition including a rested, undefeated, untied Ohio State team which they took to the woodshed. Put up 52 on them with Smith and Waddle not even playing most of the second half and Dickerson out the whole game. But OSU had D players out too.

No wonder Connelly says Alabama 2020 is the best. The numbers and schedule sure say so.

The two are not even vaguely related.

2019 and 2020 stand on their own.

2019 was the greatest offense in college football history. Saban recently said that his 2019 was the best team he ever had and LSU won vs that team. Take it from there.

It's all hypothetical bullshite any way you slice it.

BTW, the general media and public will forever reference 2019 LSU as they do today. You rarely if ever hear a reference to the 2020 season. 2021 and 2022 discussions are all about Georgia's back-to-back dominance.

If LSU is insecure, what is the word that would define a “never-was” like aggy? You’re not even a has-been.

Aggie failed self awareness ever’day.
