I, for one, am surprised that his dickead attitude translates to the current "me" culture of the college player of today. This dude is a smartass, cocky, dickhead.
Tough coaches like Saban still had likeable qualities that translated over to tough love etc., but Cignetti is a different kind of dude.
So no, I don't think he is a fit everywhere.

I wouldn't trade Elko for anyone short of Saban right now.
How much will A&M fans like Elko after Jimmy Sexton forces a huge extension by using Penn State job as leverage?
Elko currently in his 2nd year of a 6 year deal.
Shortly after the introductory press conference got underway on Monday, the terms of Elko's contract with Texas A&M were revealed. The deal is for six years at $42 million in total value, which boils down to Elko having an annual salary of $7 million.

He has some huge incentives built into his contract though.
$1 million for making the playoffs
$3.5 million for winning a NC
I don't know the exact numbers, but something like that.. Either way, he's about to get paid by A&M or someone else..

Right now, he's my top choice, but I don't think any of my top choices would want the job.
I'd settle for someone good enough to be a bridge from embarrassing to respectable.

Saban before he got soft.

Sexton may leverage the Penn State job into a raise, but I don't think it's all about the money to Elko. I think it depends more on whether he wants to be in Texas or go back to the northeast. He has great university and fan support here, plenty of NIL, and is situated in a recruiting hotbed. Once you reach a certain point financially, an extra few million doesn't even matter. Saban, Dabo, or Kirby couldn't spend all of their money if they tried.

There simply arent enough high quality coaches (that will realistically leave their current program) to go around this year, or most years in fact.
The best you can do is hire a search firm, give them a list of priorities you're looking for (win games lol) and hope for the best with whoever they recommend.

While true, there is probably a great coach or two out there that no one is talking about..
Nick Saban wasn't Nick Saban until he became Nick fricking Saban.
Urban Meyer - same, although he was quite successful at BG & Utah.
Kirby was a great DC, but no one knew for sure that he could replicate Bama's success at Georgia.
Sark was a drunk.
Lane hopped around more than Jimbo's wife at a player banquet.
Cignetti was at James Madison 2 years ago.
There are guys out there in the lower levels who could be really good in the right situation.

Cignetti has yet to deal with the big time 5 star paid recruits that come with coaching a big time program.
His style can still work at the Indianas of the world.

This is where I was going with the question. SO many people want to fire and hire the next guy but the wrong hire and you are set back 5-10 years or longer.
