I’m 25 and that’s my personal favorite players. I’m sure others vary by age.

All those guys are favorites as well!!
Hard to keep at only 10.
Harvey Hull, Jerius Norwood, Pig Prather, Fred Smoot, Robert Bean, Matt Wyatt, JJ Johnson, Jimmy Webb, Rodney Stowers etc.

Agree! I’m not a fan of top 10 lists when I’ve been a fan of something for decades.
Don Smith was special because I’ve lived 80% of my life in Tennessee and I was there on the 12th row in Neyland stadium for his 62 yd td run on my side of the field.
JJ was as tough as they come and he was special. If he would have had more years with us, he would have made my list. Norwood was ridiculous. Several guys from ‘98 & ‘99. Those were two great teams.
I remember someone asked Norwood if he was afraid of getting hurt because of his skinny legs. He replied, “They can’t hurt what they can’t catch.”
Keffer was my fav of all time. Not because we lost him too soon, but he was one of the most humble persons to have that much talent. He had God in his heart and seemed like every time I saw him, he was smiling. Reminded me of Jerry Rice when I met him.
Thought the same way about Dicenzo. One of the nicest guys I’ve ever met and pretty good pass catching RB.

My wife and I were married the same day as the State - Tennessee game. Still have the tape (was aTBS early game and our Wedding was that evening). Don Smith was unstoppable that day. Had he redshirted in 1983, our 1987 team would have been much better. That team had all the ingredients except for a QB. And he would have flourished that season.

Keefer McGee was a great player and as you mentioned a tremendous young man. Sad that we lost him so young.

Another one of my favorites was Robert Bell (“Give em hell, Robert Bell”). Was one of the first black players at Meridian High and State as well. Great football player but even a greater MAN! He was a fan favorite in high school and college. Sadly he died a couple of years ago.

Congrats on both wins! Yeah, it was a beautiful day. I was working in Nashville and my boss was a State grad so we went up for the game. We were the only two guys wearing maroon sport coats in those UT seats down low about the 40 yd line. My uncle played HS football with Johnny Majors so Johnny knew my dad and his brothers.
Much respect for Johnny. I talked to him about 10 years before he passed, he missed my call trying to get through traffic in Pittsburgh one day. When he called me back, he just kept apologizing for missing my call. Such a gracious and God fearing man.
His book “You Can Go Home Again” is a fantastic read. Some football talk but awesome stories about growing up in Lynchburg. I told him he was one of my fav coaches but that I was a lifelong MSU fan. He said, “That’s all right, Mississippi State is a great school.”
