We didn't just join a conference to immediately threaten to leave. You have to be a special kind of stupid to believe this.
10 years from now? I could buy it....but not right now.

I remember there was a rumor about miss st usce and Florida chatting with the acc(they’d never leave but it’s always good to have a job offer before you ask for a raise/promotion). There was also rumors about certain schools raising the topic of uneven distribution in the sec. Cfb is in uncertain times and everyone is looking out for their own interests(networks, schools, conferences) and sometimes it’s conflicting. I imagine most of these rumors are just posturing and nothing will come of it.

there are a lot of major schools that have explored breaking off and forming their own league independent of the NCAA. It's not something that has been hidden.

IDK, not that we would but I think UF would survive just fine if it was in the Big 10

It is inevitable that schools will break off from the NCAA and form a mini-NFL league. I can name at least a dozen of them off the top of my head. I’m hopeful that A&M is NOT one of the teams because.I hate what college sports have become.
Many of the “name” schools are not satisfied with the status quo.
USC
Oregon
Ohio State
Michigan
Alabama
Georgia
LSU
Florida
Florida State
Miami
Texas
Oklahoma
Notre Dane
are all shoe-ins to be in that group. Some will use the threat of leaving as leverage to get privileged status from the NCAA if they can be convinced to stay. Then the second tier of teams is less clear but look at the states passing NIL friendly legislation.
What is left will form a new NCAA.

Arkansas fans and Texas fans have both mentioned it on this forum
But as far as actual schools talking about it to the commissioner? I call complete BS.

A&M has talked about leaving for the B1G. It wouldn’t be far-fetched

WTH? I have never heard such an inkling of Miss State leaving the SEC and to the ACC? lol.
Come on man.

The only 2 big football brands that would threaten to bolt the SEC right now would be Georgia and Alabama. But that is a real stretch.

None of them are dumb enough to commit such an obvious form of financial suicide

Lol, try it and you'll learn the same lesson that GA Tech learned when they were king shite a few decades ago. You have one bad season and you'll fade into nothingness. A conference gives you staying power and marketability in years when you aren't marketable.
Notre Dame says hi.
I don't disagree with your main point but there are definitely some brands that could pull off independence. Others not so much.
That said and for reasons you stated, a solid conference with as many big name brands and commitment to sports, as the SEC has, make the most sense for all.

finally some common sense. We didn't just join the premiere sports conference to immediately threaten to leave. That's idiotic.
our fans that say this are full of shite, but you already know that.

Notre Dame is affiliated with the ACC in every sport except football. Yes, even NDame cannot go it fully alone.
No school in its right mind would leave the SEC UNLESS they are joining the Big10. I would argue that no SEC school in its right mind would join the Big10 based solely on the absurd amount of travel necessary to compete in that league.

If all of the big boys left (Bama, UGA, LSU, TENN etc) then fAggie might actually win something

It was a poorly written article. Could be talking about Sankey wanting to expand CFP from 12 to 16 teams or could be talking about Sankey mentioning expanding SEC to 20 team super conference which has been speculated about but I don't remember Sankey ever mentioning it. Probably a conflation of the two together.
The writer also possibly conflated the ideas that teams want to leave the SEC with the more likely idea that teams in the SEC are in favor of leaving the NCAA. If that's the case, I'd still wonder which teams.
