The Sewanee path is a dangerous road.

MIZZOU - 4 - WIUFA, Big 8, Big-12, SEC
Those are all iterations of the same conference. 2012’s move to the SEC is the only time Mizzou switched conferences.

Your post overall makes good points. I have long been brutal about Mizzou not being SEC but that was just in the spirit of being an asshat for the sake of being an asshat. Mizzou hasn't been a complete disappointment insofar as fielding good teams. I think it's simply a matter of geographically influenced culture.
Missouri is kind of its own state. It has some midwestern flavorings, as well as some southern leanings in some areas, and a mix of those in between throughout the state. I think, however, based upon the university's location in the state, that B1G would be a better fit for the institution and its sports teams. That's not to say that y'all haven't been a worthy member of the SEC, it's just that your style of ball and fan interaction would have made a huge splash in the B1G. It's truly their loss for not having you as one of the premier members of that conference. And that's why I think that Mizzou will leave the SEC at some point. I have a strong suspicion that if the B1G came calling, Mizzou would bolt for the door and it would prove wildly beneficial to the university and the B1G conference.
Thanks for this. It’s pretty accurate.
One caveat…
I can’t imagine the B1G expressing interest in Mizzou now and I don’t believe we would EVER agree to an introductory junior membership like Nebraska did.
Mizzou fans who initially balked at the SEC have come around. The move was one of the best things to ever happen to the university.
Our facilities have greatly improved with football alone approaching 500 million in improvements over the past few years.
We are competitive, but long to be excellent.
Here’s hoping!

What schools have had a transient history? Number of Conference Football Affiliations by SEC School: Alabama - 2 - Southern, SEC Arkansas - 2 - SWC, SEC Auburn - 3 - SIAA, Southern, SEC Florida - 3 - SIAA, Southern, SEC Georgia - 3 - SIAA, Southern, SEC Kentucky - 3 - SIAA (x2), Southern, SEC LSU - 3 - SIAA, Southern, SEC MSU - 3 - SIAA, Southern, SEC Ole Miss - 3 - SIAA, Southern, SEC USCe - 3 - Southern, ACC, SEC UT - 3 - SIAA, Southern, SEC Vandy - 3 - SIAA, Southern, SEC MIZZOU - 4 - WIUFA, Big 8, Big-12, SEC Oklahoma - 4 - SWC, Big 8, Big-12, SEC Texas - 5 - SIAA, TIAA, SWC, Big-12, SEC aTm - 5 - SIAA (x2) TIAA, SWC, Big-12, SEC
Statistics are a bit deceptive....
Mizzou 4 : Big 8 --> Big 12 ...does not indicate a conference move by Mizzou. The Big 8 became the Big 12 when Texas invaded it and then subsequently ruined it.

There’s no Alabama without the SEC.
Go ahead and cut loose. We backfill with Clemson.

The SEC is not really the SEC anymore and hasn't been now for some time.
How about we pull a fast one and the original SEC 10 secede and leave the 'SWC' behind?

My post was actually just a condemnation of the current playoff system and how it's made everything that use to be of value worthless now.
But you are way off here.

Alabama could not make it as an independent. We will have trouble with NIL system vs the old system. Texas should have tried that before they joined the SEC.

I'd have thought there were some lessons learned from that big one though

But it'll probably be Miss St.
Da fuq why would Miss State “leave” the conference?

It wouldn't be your choice if it happens.

I love the T shirt and face paint fan crowd who’s entire life revolves around “their team’s” football program, and that makes such sound coaching decisions as “if we dunt win a natishunal champiownship evri two yeaerz, dis coach gotta go!”, make the proclamation that another team is unsuitable for the SEC because they have had three disappointing years.
And also, the university they propose to kick out has won a NCAA recognized national championship more recently than the university that is “their team” has won one.

I never said any of the crap you are talking about here, but have fun with your strawman.
I wouldn't kick you out, but the reality is Miss St brings nothing to the table.

I know it won't happen, but I do like the idea of the conferences just dying and everyone being forced to be independent.
I think UGA with a "permanent" slate of:
Florida
GT
Auburn
SC
Clemson
4 "regional" games against teams that would currently be in the SEC/ACC.
2 "out of region" games against teams now in the Big 12 or Big 10
and 1 regional cupcake (Georgia Southern, Georgia State, App State, Troy, directional louisiana school, etc)...
would be a lot of fun. More diversity. Same general toughness if we don't wimp out on scheduling.
Might not work out for everyone though. Would Vandy or UK get home and home offers from the Alabama's and Texas's of the world anymore if it became "free market" for scheduling?
