Would be a sad day for the sport.

These days, every day is a sad day for the sport.

MIZZOU - 4 - WIUFA, Big 8, Big-12, SEC

Those are all iterations of the same conference. 2012’s move to the SEC is the only time Mizzou switched conferences.

Your post overall makes good points. I have long been brutal about Mizzou not being SEC but that was just in the spirit of being an asshat for the sake of being an asshat. Mizzou hasn't been a complete disappointment insofar as fielding good teams. I think it's simply a matter of geographically influenced culture.

Missouri is kind of its own state. It has some midwestern flavorings, as well as some southern leanings in some areas, and a mix of those in between throughout the state. I think, however, based upon the university's location in the state, that B1G would be a better fit for the institution and its sports teams. That's not to say that y'all haven't been a worthy member of the SEC, it's just that your style of ball and fan interaction would have made a huge splash in the B1G. It's truly their loss for not having you as one of the premier members of that conference. And that's why I think that Mizzou will leave the SEC at some point. I have a strong suspicion that if the B1G came calling, Mizzou would bolt for the door and it would prove wildly beneficial to the university and the B1G conference.

Thanks for this. It’s pretty accurate.

One caveat…

I can’t imagine the B1G expressing interest in Mizzou now and I don’t believe we would EVER agree to an introductory junior membership like Nebraska did.

Mizzou fans who initially balked at the SEC have come around. The move was one of the best things to ever happen to the university.

Our facilities have greatly improved with football alone approaching 500 million in improvements over the past few years.

We are competitive, but long to be excellent.

Here’s hoping!
