You let Boom give AU the level defenses that he had with the Gators and it'll be awful tough to keep them out of the playoffs.

Give us this day our daily Muschamp thread. Seriously it appears to be a daily topic.

We are happy with Muschamp. You guys (non-gators) seem scared or worried.

Ellis, lost something last season and handled a situation poorly that cost us dearly, primarily the TAMU game.

Chiz was an idiot, who felt slighted when he did not get the credit he felt he deserved for winning the Nattie. Roof was a good DC.

Depending on who posts...the narrative is always the defense/offense is great becaue of the OC, DC, HC....because of the style of offense/defense being run, etc.

In truth they all play a part. Even if Auburn had not gotten Muschamp you would see a big improvement in their defense because Lawson will be back and they got Cowart. But, Auburn made improvements in their secondary, too, and if Muschamp improves the defense just a little on his own they will have a big year. They have a lot of factors going for them that says they will be a force this year.

You are going through the same thing we went through with Pruitt. People trying to bring you down. I suspect you will see the same thing we did. A good improvement the first year and bigger improvement thereafter. You guys have a bit of advantage, though. Lawson is returning, so you will get a boost from that, too. You might see a BIG improvement this year.

That was Texas's offense not the defense. The defense was swiss cheese pretty much all night.

We also relaxed a bit. When we needed to turn it up we did and ended that.

Muschamp is a great recruiter and is a good D coordinator, that alone will make you successful.
That doesn't make you great tough. I think he did what was expected with the talent he had. He didn't do more than he was supposed to IDK.

Alabama had 263 total yards, went 2-12 on 3rd downs, and 0-1 on 4th down.

After Dareus pick 6 at the end of the 2nd quarter, Alabama got two 1st downs that weren't by penalty (Alabama had zero first downs the entire 3rd quarter) before Gilbert coughed the ball up inside his own 5 yard line when the score was 24-21 with less than 5 minutes to play.

I love revisionist history on this board. Alabama's last two scoring drives started after Gilbert turned the ball over and started at Texas' 3 & 27 yard line.

His best D was in '12. It was great IMO.

Greg went like 6-12 with 50 yards. So a pretty predictable offense. He just couldn't stop Richardson and Ingram, knowing the run was coming. Auburn's run defense is fricked this year.

Yes but you also have to look at the studs that were playing in Elam, Floyd, Easley and a few others. Still not saying muschamp isn't a good DC, because I think he is. I think his philosophy is a little too much selling out and leaving lots of man coverage which is sometimes hurt by the deep ball.

We still had a top 10 defense every year despite having the #105, #104, #116, and #96 offenses. That's a scary thing if you're playing AU over the next few years.

Right. I don't think any Auburn fans are expecting an elite defense, especially in the first year. If Muschamp can get the D in the top 30, Auburn will be in the hunt.

So Muschamp doesn't get credit for that then?

Yeah, they were so unstoppable that they could only pick up two first downs for 25 minutes straight in the 2nd half.

Alabama's offense averaged 4.2 yards per play (Texas offense averaged 3.9 yards per play). And you have fans in here saying it was "swiss cheese" all night.

And we'll also ignore that Texas' offense gave Alabama the ball five times that game. Because the offense doesn't have an effect on the defense, amirite?

We can ignore this as long as we can ignore Bama having the worst special teams game of the year; Bama's kickoff receive team muffed two kickoffs, twice giving the ball to Texas in great field position. Bama also missed a makeable field goal and an extra point. Finally, GMAC played with multiple cracked ribs, causing the coaching staff to plan and play essentially a run-only offense.

Oh, and Auburn is - and will forever be - the ONLY SEC team to lose a BCS championship game to a non-SEC school.

I think muschamp is a good DC, but he definitely benefitted statistically due to the shite show offense. Many teams played very conservative against us because they knew our offense would implode and didn't want to turn the ball over.

bullshite. If you guys had ANYTHING going on offense, that defense would have kept you in every single game.

Nice parameters.
Quite a few SEC teams have lost at least 1 title game:

UA - 72 Orange (38-6)
AU - 14 BCSCG
UF - 96 Fiesta (62-24)
UG - 83 Sugar
LSU - 12 BCSCG

2012 was a legit defense. Other years, were statistically good, but let us down in a lot of games. Numbers were also probably inflated because of how we played offense. I remember the LSU game last year, where statistically you could say our defense had a good game, but the reality was LSU got whatever they wanted.

There was no "title game" prior to the BCS.
