If Michigan, Penn State, and Notre Dame are in this conference then I'd be fine peacing out. We are charter members of the SEC. I don't think you could continue calling yourself SEC if this happens.

I didn't say I wanted it, I don't. I just can see where it is headed. I am not a fan of NFL Lite and it's just about getting the big schools to play each other in a quest for maximum cash but I know that won't make much difference.

I doubt this will happen. There will be all sorts of anti-trust issues with something like that. You would also be getting politicians involved.

Explain to me how alienating 80 fan bases across the country will lead to an increase in revenue/viewership.

Also, in your proposed super-league, what do you think will happen when Michigan and Miami end up losing 80% of their games because they have to play Alabama, OSU, Clemson, etc every week?

Bitch, Agricultural hasn't accomplished a damn thing in sports since 1876. You don't have a single legacy except your BQ Band.

Not even going to argue about A&M's success or lack thereof. That's secondary in the world to come. It's about money. A&M has a half million living alumni and sits in a state with 30 million people and a stadium of 100k plus they fill. They will remain.

The list of schools that have had football success but have been left in the dust is already long, it's really a secondary consideration. It's all about the dollars.

I don't like it but that doesn't make it any less true.

Charter membership means nothing in the end as it likely won't even be called the SEC at that point. It's basically a new club of the big dollar schools making an NFL Lite league.

That's right. They could keep the SEC and bring in replacement teams.

I think it would actually be good for the sport.

Once you make the decision to go all in for dollars it's very hard to go back. It's not really anything new but it is just continuing to evolve, NIL was a major shift as well.

That sealed the deal. Tons of money to be made. But the bigger the market the more money.

That's not how things work. It's quite literally not how things work. Pay attention.

In your mind, create a mythical conference with the ten best teams in the country, all playing each other over a nine game season. What will you end up with - ten juggernauts ?

No - you will not. You'll end up with a couple elite teams, a few middling teams, and a couple losers. Because losing to the best, week in and week out, does nothing except diminish fan support for those brands. They will not, over the course of a few seasons, remain one of ten best teams.

The SEC REQUIRES a broad spectrum of football talent - because nobody pays to see Alabama practice - and nobody pays to see their favorite team, which may be a top twenty program, lose most weekends to teams that are all in the Top 10.

UT? Seriously, frick you. Tennessee is historically 2nd in the SEC and a very bad drought doesn't change that. Damn idiot.

At that point I doubt it will be called the SEC if that makes you feel any better.

They will lose some purists for sure but people sadly have short memories. In the end a league filled with big schools with big fanbases playing big games will make a crapload of money. That's what this is about.

The combination of Texas and OU blowing up the Big 12 to come to the SEC along with NIL though just accellerated the inevitable.

What? Since when does MSU have more fans than ND?

You don't.

t's funny to me how you think the smaller schools will just take their beating and still play the upper echelon of teams.

Where did I say that? In this, MSU would never play Bama. You won't be in the league.

ou kick folks out, there will be nobody to play.

Sure there will be. You replace the smalls in the SEC with the NDs, Ohio States....etc.

It's shortsighted to think that would generate the most money. That would be the most saturated product of all time. You'd have 10 teams tops watching college football. It would die so fast.

I give this effort a solid 6.5. You could have had more though if you would have thrown in South Carolina or A&M as well.

If anything the OPs point about bringing up how the blue bloods Ohio State-Alabama in a ratings low in the national championship proves that a blue blood conference would be doomed to exist.

I don't think it will be. I don't think legally it could happen.

There will still be an SEC.

Columbia needs to send you a cease and desist for using their flair as it absolutely cheapens the image of a fine institution.

If we're headed for a megaconference, the entirety of the SEC will be a part of said conference/league. Assuredly, the strongest force in the sport doesn't have to shed any weight; if this conference has 24 or 32 teams, it'll be up to the four other power conferences to deal with the fallout of programs being left behind.
