When does the SEC step up and eliminate FCS teams, or even adding a 9th conf game?

SEC: 8 game conference schedule, with 18 FCS wins
Big Ten: 9 game conference schedule, with 0 FCS wins
Big 12: 9 game conference schedule, with 8 FCS wins
ACC: 8 game conference schedule, 15 FCS wins
PAC 12:9 game conference schedule, 9 FCS wins

Strength of Schedule arguments go out the door when you factor in the above. Playing FCS games AND an 8 game schedule is a joke and should be addressed.

Last time there was a vote only Nick Saban and Bret Bielema voted yes. Why is everyone so scared of a 9 game conference schedule?

I won’t be surprised if we see the SEC going to a pod system instead of adding a ninth conference game.

Strength of schedule is largely irrelevant in P5 conferences now that there is a playoff system. From a rankings perspective, A&M would have been better off beating an FCS team as opposed to losing to Clemson.

Probably when we stop getting a team in the playoffs, as of now it works, it isn't broken and they aren't going to fix it, one thing about playing in the SEC, you know you will have a decent strength of schedule just by your conference games, if there are only 8 of them. If you win them, you will get a 9th in Atlanta, and win that one, a playoff birth.

Until the rest of the country stops sucking so much relative to the rest of the SEC, and a one loss team from any other conference is viewed more favorably than any 2 loss SEC, then there is no point.

Kirby said earlier this season that he agrees with Saban on this.

It doesn't seem to have hurt the ACC or the SEC in recent years, so there isn't much impetus to change.

I am all for it. The norm of an 8 game conf schedule, plus one big neutral site game and 3 home cupcakes doesn't do a lot for fan experience.

It will knock alot of the bubble teams out of bowl eligibility. The little shite teams scraping by on 6 wins will only end up with 5 wins. Then we'll have to change the rule to make it so 5 wins makes you bowl eligible.

That would be a stupid move for the SEC! The fact that we would lose money makes this a bad move! Add 8 extra losses to mostly the weaker teams would push someone out of a bowl game payday plus half of the teams would lose the money from a home game! Makes this a losing proposition for the SEC as a whole!

But it works out for weaker teams like aggy, Texas has played Georgia more times than aggie since aggie joined the sec.

The Big 10 has allowed schools to put FCS teams back on their schedule in years where they only have 4 conference home games. They also went 5-2 against FCS teams in 2016 which might be why they are a bit gun shy in scheduling them.

Not to mention...

“Now after watching things play out over the last three years, we noted that we were the only conference to go totally in that direction,” Delany said. “We have never really gotten there because we had long existing contracts. When we went to nine games, we did not anticipate the problems that some of our schools would have in years that they only had four conference games -- it was very difficult for them to get three FBS opponents on to their schedules if they were looking for seven home games.”

The Big 12 and PAC 12 had to go to a 9 game schedule more by necessity then anything.

Unless you are going to pay through the nose its not easy to convince someone from the Eastern half of the country to fly out to California. There are only so many MWC teams you can schedule. So an extra conference game helps them.

The Big 12 is stuck in that they don't have enough teams to go with two divisions. A round robin schedule is their only option.

Playing FCS schools might be little better then a scrimmage I will grant you, but is playing Eastern Illinois that much worse then playing Texas State? Its not like the Sunbelt and Conference USA can't get games with SEC teams, they do just fine, so we aren't throttling the local G5 conferences.

I'd do away with the preferred rivalry games, I like playing Missouri but it would be nice to play some of the other East division schools more then once a decade, but what we are doing right now isn't broken. I see no need to fix it.

Simple answer...as long as a middling team like UCF can play a fake schedule and get press, publicity, and possibly a playoff spot, it makes no sense to play tough OOC games or add another tough SEC game.

If we go to 8-teams, it makes little sense to play a SEC championship game...or even play in a tough conference. Better off playing a weak independent schedule.

Half the Big 10 had losing records to the G6. 9 conference games there doesn't impress me

Tomorrow isn't soon enough. Have you seen Bama's home schedule next season? Pathetic. I don't know how the AD looks ticket holders in the eye.

Why can't we forget this silly permanent cross division shite? Discard divisions. Develop a system where programs can have a home and home with every conference member within a 4 year period. Have the teams with the two best records play for the Conference title.

What kind of an idiot asks a question like that? Why would you make things harder on yourself when you are at the top and winning as it is? Seriously how did people become so stupid? Mind blowing.

How would that work?

I DO see is growing to 16...which, obviously, means 9 (or more) conf. games.
