When does the SEC step up and eliminate FCS teams, or even adding a 9th conf game? by Big Bang Rookie
That would be a stupid move for the SEC! The fact that we would lose money makes this a bad move! Add 8 extra losses to mostly the weaker teams would push someone out of a bowl game payday plus half of the teams would lose the money from a home game! Makes this a losing proposition for the SEC as a whole!

Yet at the same time, LSU whines about the current scheduling!

Why can't we forget this silly permanent cross division shite? Discard divisions. Develop a system where programs can have a home and home with every conference member within a 4 year period. Have the teams with the two best records play for the Conference title.

Easy....MAJORITY of the SEC LOVE c/d rivalries! 2nd...divisions allow you to compare 7 teams based off common opponents EASIER than the numerous tie-breakers needed to figure out rankings with NO/LITTLE common opponents.

Yes, 14 has & will be a tough # of teams to work with.....hince we need to factors 4 (12, 16, 20, 24, ...).

It would be better for the fans, but the SEC has had no problems getting into the CFP, so what's the point?

The point of what?

There's been at least 1 SEC team (and 1 ACC team, since they also do 8 + FCS) in the CFP every season. Don't try and fix something that isn't broken.

There's no need to change anything is my point.

It’s the fan appeal that’s broken. UK is a de facto part-time member of the MAC. I’d much prefer that we scheduled only P5 schools.

But you have to agree that growing the conf. by 2 teams & NOT work on scheduling was a bad move by the SEC.

I don't agree at all. Ya have the 1,000 lb gorilla and all of the TV money.

Yes, I think its ridiculous that I may never again see Bama play an away game in Gainsville or Athens in my lifetime, but what does it matter?

Unless something remarkable happens, we know the B12 is going belly up 1st. Everbody will snag new members requiring scheduling changes.

They'll add it when it benefits one team.

how is adding a 9 conference game stepping up? Eliminating FCS doesn't do anything either. The conference is reasonably successful, unlike the B1G, The PAC12, or the Big 12.

Get your facts straight. LSU's not complaining about the 8 game schedule. LSU would like a rotating schedule against the East instead of playing Florida every year. That's two totally different issues.

Wrong. Gus is in favor as well. I think the last vote was around expansion time, and people wanted to see how that shakes out. AU has also pushed a move to the east, and one Saban is against.

SEC: 8 game conference schedule, with 18 FCS wins
Big Ten: 9 game conference schedule, with 0 FCS wins
Big 12: 9 game conference schedule, with 8 FCS wins
ACC: 8 game conference schedule, 15 FCS wins
PAC 12:9 game conference schedule, 9 FCS wins

Strength of Schedule arguments go out the door when you factor in the above. Playing FCS games AND an 8 game schedule is a joke and should be addressed.
Partly because Saban originally suggested the 9-game SEC idea, and therefore nearly everybody's gonna be against it.

I would love it, but I see why SC, GA, and Fl would all be against it.

Strength of schedule is largely irrelevant in P5 conferences now that there is a playoff system. From a rankings perspective, A&M would have been better off beating an FCS team as opposed to losing to Clemson.

A&M would've been better off not losing to Auburn and Miss State.

That's some coward mentality. The reason Ohio State made it to playoffs in 2016 despite not winning their conference was their win against OU. Tough non conference games can push a team into playoffs because it is virtually impossible to go undefeated in all conference match-up.

This is true. One of the most widely used positive arguments for the Aggies this year was how close they played Clemson.

The post is AGAINST going to 9 games, wants to get rid of divisions & the c/d games.

The SEC WON'T be doing eith of the latter 3 because c/d games are loved by all. Getting rid of divisions is not going to work due to the pros for them outweigh the cons.
The ONLY WAY for you to get a better rotation is to reduce all conferences creating a full round-robin schedule like the B12. But how many conferences WILL HAVE TO BE CREATED to achieve that.
So, what are you suggesting since those are the only options to work with?

While I agree that increasing the # of teams should have changed the scheduling, we are waiting to see who else is added or 2025 when the current rotation is over.
