I live an hour from a pro football team. Couldn't care less. Free Agency, teams changing cities, money, kneeling, dumb rules, cost of games, etc. have ruined pro football over the decades. It's just no fun.

I love college sports, but it has zero bearing on my happiness or quality of life. It's just fun to watch.

I specifically said the backyard in the post you replied to. Holy shite.

"Throwing a football in the backyard" and playing games with the neighborhood kids in the backyard are, in my opinion, two different things...I'm not trying to be confrontational, just saying that football games were a big part of my childhood, as were baseball and basketball games.

I grew up in Tuscaloosa where the schools, YMCA, PARA, Boys' Club, etc. all sponsored leagues for all the sports. Prattville, being smaller, may not have had that available.

I think we can get the answer by looking at Texas. They have every professional sport and college sports. They have overzealous fans of both pro and college.
Don't forget about "Friday Night Lights."

In addition - family ties. My dad went to state. I grew up going to and watching games with him. Now we get to share the experience with my son. We can relate because we both actually went to school there. That connection is stronger than it is with pro teams.

Maybe that's why I don't care about results as much. I'm going to love and be loyal to MSU no matter.

To a fan of a Pro team I would think that wins and losses would matter a lot more

We enjoy college football in my family. Why not? It's good, clean fun. We enjoy other and follow other sports too, on the college and pro level. We participate in some of them on a community level.
Our family follows religion, finance and politics closely too. We are involved in all at some level.
I believe the accusation that we are "crazy" about college sports is used out of jealously. It makes us happy when the team we support wins but that is hardly the sum of our existence.
Everyone can choose something they can be passionate about and enjoy it. Loosen up. Try it.

Pick up games in the neighborhood and playing in a league are completely different.

And you can play pick up hockey just as easily as you can play football, basketball, etc. Playing in a local league is tougher.

No difference between the two places.

Really? You and I are obviously from 2 different eras. Where I grew up, I wouldn't even know where to go to find an ice rink!
The point I've tried to make is that the masses down South are familiar and have played more outside sports (football for example) than the people up North because of the climate.....that's all!

One can often times tell the age range of a person by which sport they are interested in.

It's not like I have a choice in the matter.

I assure you, if I could not be emotionally invested in Arkansas sports I wouldn't be. My life would be much happier. But here we are.

People cere just as much about professional sports and I’ve never understood that. I don’t know how you can be completely invested in a team made up of guys that have no connection to the city/area the team represents. Also why are NFL fans so damn trashy?

I'd say that their fan base is totally made up of what we call sidewalk fans.

Are you insinuating that LSU/BAMA/UGA fans are more passionate about their teams than Michigan/OSU/PSU fans?

I wouldn't make that argument.

Michigan/OSU/PSU fans love to make this argument. They use it to denigrate the South.

You have been a posting member on a sports board, actively posting about southeastern sports since 2009.

Just in case that is something you forgot?
