I feel like this question hasn't been asked before.
Seriously, WTF is wrong with most of you?
Why the frick does everything go so batshit crazy the further south you go in America? What's the deal with Mississippi and Alabama? Why are y'all so insane and crazy? Why does college football control so much of your happiness?

If you don't want to be the best at something, then you don't need to do it.

Cause college football is more fun/entertaining, more passionate, and has more pride on the line than watching some overpaid guy play for "my city".

Mississippi and Alabama do not have any pro teams.

The South, as a whole, is usually the butt of all kinds of jokes. College football is pretty much the only way we can fight back.

The reason people in the south love college sports is due to the lack of professional sport teams throughout the south. Also consider the fact that northern states have had the NFL longer than the south. Detroit got their NFL team in the 30s while Atlanta/New Orleans got their teams in the 60s.
Also, Alabama, Auburn, or Georgia fans are no more crazy than Raider, Green Bay, or Philadelphia fans.

I can only speak for FL but we end up with all the batshit crazies from around the country.

For most sports fans in the deep south, their rabid allegiance to their favorite team is a coping mechanism to alleviate the pain of the sad fact that Arkansas was allowed to join the SEC.

So before we joined you guys didn’t care for your teams? Damned, I guess we are more important to the conference than I thought!

If Arkansas was worth a damn in football you'd be one of the crazies on here celebrating their accomplishments. Instead you're on here like a whiny little bitch complaining about those who do get some sort of pleasure out of seeing their team have success.
Honestly it's a much better look than being a whiny little bitch on a forum for all to see.

This. Historically speaking, southerners have always felt a more regional allegiance to their in state college teams largely due to the lack of professional teams below the Mason-Dixon. It also helped that college athletic events were more accessible for poor Southerners than a professional game night have been. Up until 1980, it was commonplace for the railroad bank behind Sanford stadium to be covered with people watching the game for free.
Overall, southerners tend to be a lot more tribalistic and regionalistic than most parts of the country and colle sports has created the perfect conduit for that pageantry and ritual. Pro teams don’t actually belong to a place but to an owner; they can pack up and leave if they want. Colleges are rooted in place and the people of that place

They live in states with shitty or no pro sports.
And it's the opposite for the North East.

Jags were not dog shite last year.
Lightening weren't dog shite and usually aren't.
I'll give you the magic though. They suck!!!!

They were better than they usually are I'll give you that, but you have to admit that it would be difficult to be as enthusiastic about them as the Gators when the Gators have won as many NC's as the Jags have won their division.

Solid list of generalizations, with some stereotype thrown in and no supporting evidence.
This should get OP some real introspective answers

It has been a challenge to be enthusiastic about uf football the past 7 years. Have you seen our offense during that period?

Are you insinuating that LSU/BAMA/UGA fans are more passionate about their teams than Michigan/OSU/PSU fans?
I wouldn't make that argument. Maybe it's that the northern states have higher populations, so it's more diluted?
