2003 was worse for me though. Price fired, Shula hired in May and 4-9
I almost give the Shula years a hall pass since we were pretty much paying the price of probation but 2003 is obviously an honorable mention with the off season lead up of cluster fricks after fRan left. I remember hearing about Price getting fired for using his university credit card at a strip club and I was thinking this program couldn't sink any lower. Once we got into the Shula era, it was tough digesting the beatings we took from Auburn, LSU, and UT but I knew that the school needed a no drama low risk coach through that period. Winning was secondary which made the Saban years all the more glorious. Current Bama fans that didn't whether that storm of living near the basement of the SEC don't know how good they have had it since maybe 2008.

Spot on man. The talent was there, the offensive coaching was not.

For me, it's 1989 LSU.
Entered the season #7, had Tom Hodson at QB, a favorable schedule, and an experienced team that the Houston Chronicle said was a favorite to win the national title in their pre-season prediction the day we played in College Station.
Texas A&M ran back the opening kickoff.
We would lose 6 of the first 7 games, mostly close games that we could have won. But, we weren't a good team at all, finishing 4-7.
The opening of the Dark Ages.
Oh, it was also my last year in Tiger Band. Sigh.
GEAUX TIGERS!

Probably 1993.
Coming off of a 10-2 season. Pre-season #13/14. Went 5-6. Beat no one of significance in SEC play. Stumbled right out of the gate by losing to South Carolina. Dog walked by UTK. Didn't sniff the rankings after that.
Beat the nerds to close out the season.
And that was with Eric Zeier at QB and some dude named Terrell Davis at RB.
I know Dooley hand picked Ray Goof and was the AD, but holy hell Georgia kept him on too long. He should have been gone after 1994 which might have prevented Spurrier's half a hundred on us in Athens during the 95 season.

2015 Auburn football was pretty bad, especially after such a promising start to the 2014 season followed by a meltdown.

Thanks for the memories (2000).

Was that the year Mike Dubose banged his secretary on his desk using the one arm desk clearing technique?

Yup. Id have to say 2010 Bama for me. That team was loaded top to bottom. They bought into their press clippings and lost three games. The bowl game made it worse because we finally saw how good they couldve been when they destroyed a good Michigan St team.

All of the Hudson Hallman seasons.

2000 Alabama started preseason #2 and Freddie Milons was a preseason Heisman favorite.
First game on the road against UCLA he took the first punt of the game all the way back for a touchdown and the season was living up to expectations perfectly.
It would last 1 series. UCLA would end up dominating the game and winning easily and Milons didn't do shite the rest of the year and it was the worst season since the 1950s

2005 LSU.
If we had beat Georgia in the SECCG, I think we had a shot at jumping Texas. We had 5 ranked wins to their 3 and a hell of a story rallying after 2 major hurricanes.
That was a sick team.

Any LSU fan that does not say 2011 is lying.

2011 isn't even top 5 for me anymore. Too much other heartache.

2023 LSU Tigers football. #1 offense in the country. Mid-tier defense would have won LSU a National Championship. Defense was worse than terrible.
This. I don’t know if it’s actually the most disappointing season for me, or just recency bias, but I’m still pissed about it. #1 offense in the country for the second time in 5 years. Let that sink in. LSU with the #1 offense once in my lifetime is hard to believe, but twice in 5 years? Unreal! And we fricking blow it with a defense that my 2-8 high school team could have ran through. With just an average, or maybe slightly above average defense, LSU is making the playoffs and would have had a chance to win it.

2006 LSU. Was better than the 2007 team that won the NC. Lost two tough games at Auburn and UF and probably should have won at the least the Auburn game.
They beat Auburn and I think they take UF in SECCG and then destroy Ohio State in the Natty.

I was at LSU from 2003 to 2007. At the very least we should have been in a BCS bowl every year. Team was that loaded.
And there is still no excuse for 5 losses in 2008.
