The best amd most meaningful Alabama upset was the 1926 Rose Bowl vs Washington, 20-19, "the game that changed the South." The entire south was in on it... theatres filled with people as scribes read ticker tape and telegrams about progress and posted the events on movie screens. Get this... New Orleans hosted a major parade for the victorious Tide team when their train came through on the way back to Tuscaloosa.
The second most important upset was in 1971, Alabama vs USC in California. Alabama running the wishbone for the first time stunned the Trojans, QB Terry Davis (from Louisiana) pitching the ball to Johnny Musso, my favorite Alabama RB of all times.
This game created or signaled the rebirth of Coach Bryant and Alabama. The Tide then went through the 1970s losing about 9 games total. Without that victory perhaps the legend of Alabama would have died an early death and we would have no Nick Saban today.
What a great night that was listening to the radio broadcast (no TV), the entire town empty, not a single car on the streets, not one pedestrian or anyone in the library. Immediately after the game a full scale joyous riot erupted. Never seen the like of it since...

1928 over Bama. The game that showed two teams could play in the South. lol
1985 blowing out Miami in the Sugar Bowl.
2001 over Florida should have won us the SEC but we forgot that LSU had Saban and we had Chavis' dumb arse.

1950 Tennessee-Mississippi State.
State won 7-0 in Starkvegas handing the Vols their only loss that year. It cost UT the SEC and the National Championship.
General Neyland was so mad he vowed to never bring another Tennessee team to Starkvegas. He was true to his word as UT did not play again at Scott Field until 1987 well after he retired. The teams only played intermittently through the years and several times played in Memphis.
That game and the 1980 Bama game (that I mentioned previously) are probably the two greatest upsets in State’s history.

Let’s talk about how Georgia for 43 years after that game didn’t play a regular season road game outside the South.
WTF does this have to do with anything? You REALLY wanna talk about going home and home with OOC opponents the last 15 years? Multiple years UGA had only 6 home games because of Jacksonville and went home and home OOC with SC,Clemson and GT (Sorry an instate game we have to play)
Ohio State also cancelled a home and home along with UCLA pulling it's guarantee for a return game in the 80's.

As a sidelight to that game and season. Prior to 1971 Bama’s offense was balanced and the Tide was known as a passing team. Two of the WR’s were from Meridian (George Ranager (1968-1970) and David Bailey (1969-1971). They were part of Bob Tyler’s 2 year run at Meridian High when the Wildcats were unbeaten (1966-1967) and won back to back Big 8 Championships (equivalent to today’s 6A MS high school Championship.
George Ranager later became a SEC Referee and he still works in the booth even in the present day.
Anyway back to 1971, David Bailey was a Senior and would have possibly been a candidate for All-SEC and All-American honors. However he was relegated to pretty much nothing with the wishbone offense being introduced and utilized at Bama. His parents, particularly his Dad, were so disgusted that they tore up their season tickets and did not attend any games that year. His family was historically State fans but the reason he went to Bama was his cousin, George Ranager was already there and they were running a more wide open offense.
David’s widow has said he was never a Bama fan in later years despite playing there and being an alum. In fact she said he would pull for State when they played Bama.
Just an interesting story IMO. When a team radically changes its offense, there will invariably be some fallout from it.
Of course in Bama’s case, it was win-win as it led to a 10 year period of dominance for the Tide.

1978 Orange Bowl vs. Oklahoma
The Hogs were an 18 point dog just days before the game. Then Holtz suspended 3 players, 2 of which accounted for 78% of the Hog offense.
By game time the Hogs were 24 point dogs. Arkansas went on to crush Oklahoma 31-6, and Roland Sales (the back-up RB) is still running.

10 title. Probably not your traditional upset, but most were pulling for Oregon because of the arse beatings Cam and Gus were handing out.

So because you play GT (which is a joke of a program and has only been relevant like 3 or 4 seasons in 50 years) you can’t schedule games outside the South?
What kind of delusional logic is that? For 43 years while you were staying in the confines of the South Alabama was playing Southern Cal, UCLA, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Missouri, Penn State, Maryland, etc. at their place.
Georgia is notorious for not leaving the southeast. Your future scheduling is something new so don’t act like you have been doing it forever. You haven’t.

UGA fans can't win the big one. Not since 1980. It is only natural for them to be jealous of Bama, who has won half of them in 10 years time. Going through UGA three times in Atlanta too. God love em.

UK over #1 LSU when Brooks was here, though that win against Florida in the swamp last year was really special. Still can't believe we finally won

It did. Was my favorite part of the season. Better than our bowl win against Penn State even

2007 UF. That is top on my list anyway.
Holttthhh had a much better chance of being a Florida Thenator than Auburn had of beating UF.
