What odds would you give for starting the season?

I'm thinking there's about a 30% chance or less that things line up in such a way that we are able to start the regular season in earnest.

Less than 50/50. They will do everything they can to play because of the financial implications. I just wonder if governors, school presidents will let them

Delayed/Shortened Fall season: 50%

Starts on time 5%
Delayed start with shortened season 50%
Spring season I think they will try and avoid this scenario 45%
With full attendance 0%
With limited attendance 50%
With no attendance 50%

for the geniuses(athletic officials/health officials) that keep bringing up pushing the season to spring exactly what does that to other spring sports march madness, baseball, softball etc

In addition to disrupting those sports, that also means football would last into June, and the bowl season would be July. This sounds like an absolute nightmare for players and fans not in the Big 10 or Pac 12, and I'm not exactly sure how it could be safely done. And then it causes a wonky offseason. How do you correct this once it's been started? The 2020 season is pushed to spring 2021 and ends in July. That means we either have to start a second 2021 season a couple months later in September, or wait a year and some change to start back in September 2022. If we're going to end up waiting an entire year either way, we may as well not sacrifice baseball and March Madness just so we can have football played in the summer - which no one actually wants.

I don't think they'll switch to Spring. Lots of NFL bound players won't play at all if they do that and then it screws up the 2021 season. If we can't wrap everything up by end of January then I'd rather just cancel and prepare for normal 2021 season.

Part of me thinks eventually they’ll just say f it and let it go on.

I guess I haven't heard the proposals just yet but why into July? Right now its goes 4 months (Sep-Dec), and spills into a 5th month because of the playoff. If you started in Feb they could work it out so the post-season is in May?

I've heard that if they do it in the spring there is a motion to only do conference games, but I agree with you...lotta guys who have NFL futures would probably opt out so what's the point. Who knows at this point.

About 65% sure it’ll happen in some form or other this fall. I could see college taking after pro ball in making a bigger gap between fans and players with the first 8-10 rows, then asking masks be worn with about 45% of people wearing them. If we have enough Hydroxychloroquine by then, I don’t see a reason to not have damn near full capacity or at the very least 50% full.
People just gotta be careful. Some of my friends act like this is a non-issue, but my mom’s had 5 heart passes and smoked all of her life. I don’t think she’d make it. A lot of people my age DGAF about the other people they can potentially infect, but it’s hard to in this kind of society I guess. Weaker portion of the populace will always have its head on the chopping block first as far as deaths from viruses and stuff goes unfortunately.

60% opening on time
Because death rates are so low for under 60 and the virus less potent by sept
A simple thing to do Every other seat should be empty and maybe masks and maybe fans in the stadiums under 60 yrs old
A major mistake to lock down the economy while the virus only affected severely the old

I'll bet that every school gets most of their athletic department money from the over 60 crowd buying season tickets and additional donations. Maybe they should instead cut out the students and the under 40 crowd that buys cheap tickets from scalpers.

Yeah, skipping the season seems more likely to me than a Spring season.
