re: What is it with Southern "Christians" and hypocrisy

Religion was invented and maintained as a form of control over the masses. Nothing has changed. If the trillions of man hours that have been wasted on religion since we started walking upright had been applied to science we would already be living on Mars and living until we were 200 years old. The sooner we evolve out of fearing mystical powers in the sky the better.

Except you do by opening this thread and continuing it. You not only come here to play church, you're emotionally invested in the topic so much you feel you need to disrupt and mock the discussion as much as possible.

They just want to feel moral superior, without actually making the tough choices when no one is there to see, or better yet, compliment them.

It stems from a lack of accountability because so many southern Christian’s aren’t complex thinkers and blindly accept someone’s half hearted apology, or don’t even require an apology to accept one back into the fold. Someone on Twitter said it best today - It’s Rub Some Church On It Christianity.

What about just Christians (quotes removed)? Not sure I understand your point.

Man, talk about it. My good friend…(who is one of the best Christians I know) her husband went to Bob Jones, and I just found out he was arrested for soliciting prostitution not too long ago. Just like ole Freeze. And what happened? Nothing. They just let him back in like no harm no foul. And he’s not a good dude at all! Thinks he is superior to everyone. I’ve been watching this now the last several months. And talk about jaw dropped.

Hypocrisy isn’t just a Christian thing. It’s an individual thing, and there are a lot of people that way unfortunately.

Also everyone has been hypocritical about something or another at one point in their life so it’s pretty hypocritical to act as if you haven’t.

It is the fashionable and edgy thing to do now to talk down about Christians though. Reminds me of teenage angst.

This is fantastically false. “Religion” wasn’t invented. Religion is a description of the way man interfaces with God, and not some single thing. Faiths of the world have largely developed independently in much of the same way any ideology would, like materialism as a worldview, post modernism, etc. Buddhism has more overlap with non theism than it does with the Judeo-Christian worldview.

The cosmological and exo-genesis realities point overwhelmingly to an uncaused first cause. The fine tuning of the universe alone is an overwhelming argument for deity.

You don’t judge any system of belief by its abuses. I can’t conclude that atheists are all immoral because certain atheists put 100 million people to death in the 20th century.

Hugh Freeze’s ability to model Christ is not an indictment on Christ it’s an indictment on Hugh Freeze.
