I work in St Louis a lot and know folks there. I actually like it. There are parts of town that are bad but mostly they are pretty cool. Next time back I'm taking in a Cards game.

Basically, it is a baseball and beer town. Always will be.

I kind of got the same feeling while working and living New Orleans.

Seemed like a booze and football town. I guess when you have the NBA and NFL ... not many folks interested in the college football game. That being said, lots of folks loved the Greenwave while I was there ... so there is that.

I have never in my life seen anything ole miss here ever.

The frick.

I live in southern missouri it is 100% all Mizzou, Arky and OU fans. Lived northern missouri for awhile and it was all Mizzou Kansas fans. I have never met an Ole Miss fan here in the state of Missouri.

I have seen 1 Mississippi state fan and there is a shite ton of the Bama bandwagon fans that also love Lebron and the Patriots. I know 1 LSU fan.

I’ve seen a smattering of Ole Miss and State fans, mostly from southeast Missouri, but they are certainly a very rare sight in KC, Columbia, or St. Louis. KC is Mizzou, Kansas, K-State, and then a bit of Arkansas and OU. St. Louis is Cards and then Mizzou a distant second. You see a bit of Illinois gear out there as well, but not much.

There are plenty of Ole Miss fans in St Louis. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread a lot of STL kids consider it their party school for whatever reason

Had like 20 STL kids in my fraternity. The fricking Busch (Anheuser Busch) family sent their kid to ole miss.

DeWitt and his partners had nothing to do with the Busch Stadium improvements done prior to the 1996 season. That project was well underway before Anheuser-Busch announced their intentions to sell.

Yeah, Billy Jr went to OM and Gussie went to Alabama and I think they both actually walked on the football teams.

Best baseball city in America. Maybe the only major American city that's baseball-first.

If you've got younger kids, they'll love City Museum.

I went to see a Cards-Cubs game at the old Busch Stadium back in the late 90's. Holy crap it was like an oven in that stadium, over 100 on the field. I know my Dad wanted to leave by the 3rd inning Hottest stadium/game I've ever attended (fwiw).

It was smotheringly hot when we went, then we had a 1 hour rain delay before first pitch, so humidity was a million percent. Luckily, we had Redbird Club tix, so the wife could retreat inside. Boys had a ball.

Depends if you are talking about St. Louis CITY or the metropolitan area.

St. Louis has a rather unique situation in that the City and the County are separate entities. St. Louis CITY has a population of slightly less than 300k. The metropolitan area sans the city is around 2.5M. When you see crime stats about St. Louis it’s usually limited to the urban area of 300k.

The St. Louis area in general is quite safe if you know where to hang and where not to go. I’ve lived in the area all my life from apartment buildings to eventually a nice house and have never experienced so much as a car break in. I’m out to restaurants and bars in both the City and County quite a bit and also a Cardinal season ticket holder (so regularly in the City). No problems.

I spent 12 months on an assignment years ago in Houston and was robbed at gunpoint in my driveway in a “nice” part of town in the first couple of months I was there. Gotta know your surroundings.

True of almost any big city. I didn't find St. Louis especially dangerous or sketchy compared to other big cities. I do think it's not a particularly friendly US big city, much like Boston. St. Louis is a prettier place than Kansas City, for instance, but people in KC are a lot friendlier. People in New York are friendlier, actually.

Funny, I just returned from a trip down in NOLA. That town consistently smelled like weed too. Wonder what the common denominator is?

I'd actually be in favor or legalizing weed nationwide if we could also ban public smoking nationwide.

If you think St. Louis is a nice city with “decent Italian food” and “nice suburbs,” then you are poor or poorly traveled.

My unfortunate Italian cousin got transferred to St. Louis (he’s a Nestle engineer) and was scarred for life. He thought everywhere in the U.S. was like New York and Miami. Nope…
