For the first time in a while to take in a Cardinals game. In case you're wondering, St. Louis is definitely not the South, and I was surprised to see more people wearing Ole Miss stuff than Mizzou stuff (not many either way, but I was still pretty surprised). I'd say you leave the South around Poplar Bluff. The area between Poplar Bluff and St. Louis looks like Kentucky and sounds like Illinois.

Decent food town. Downtown smelled consistently like weed.

Why would you ever willingly go there?

I work in St Louis and like it there, but you aren't going to find a big SEC crowd in that area at all. That's Cardinals/Chiefs utopia.

They like to think they are in the South though.

As a 30 Y/o I can sorta explain this. Young kids(college types) at least around here rep their school stuff everywhere. For whatever reason, Mizzou and SLU kids, when at home(so in town) do not. Also in Columbia, all this kids wear Chiefs, Cards, or Royals stuff all day every day.

There are a ton of memphis and arkansas carinal fans, so Ole miss(Memphis) and Arkansas fans wear their schools stuff when visiting for games... I dont blame them, I never wear my schools stuff when walking around in st louis, but when I travel I wear mizzou stuff mostly.

I went to see a Cards-Cubs game at the old Busch Stadium back in the late 90's. Holy crap it was like an oven in that stadium, over 100 on the field. I know my Dad wanted to leave by the 3rd inning Hottest stadium/game I've ever attended (fwiw).

Best Baseball fans in the country.

Quality Music, Arts & Entertainment, Italian Food.

Forest Park, St. Louis Zoo, Gateway Arch & Jefferson Memorial Expansion Museum.

West County is very nice once you get outside of downtown/industrial area.

..and if it was late 90's they may have gone to real grass by then. 1970 through 1995 was artificial turf. Very tough on the players on hot days.

July 12, 1966...All-star game was held in the brand new Busch Stadium in 103-degree weather. Former Yankees manager Casey Stengel an honorary coach for the game is credited with one of the most memorable quotes from that day. When asked what he thought of the new ballpark his diplomatic response was "The new park sure holds the heat well"

Think of it as upper New Orleans but without most of the French charm it had decades before…especially when I was growing up when some of the citizens still spoke the language.

There are many people in the St Louis metro area of Illinois who attend Ole Miss. Brett Huber is from Belleville, 15 miles from Busch Stadium

I worked with a great Cape G, Missouri girl who graduated from Ole Miss

She waited tables in college and had mad respect for Archie Manning at her restaurant

I’ve been to numerous regular season braves games where I could count the fans with my fingers. It’s a fricking joke they can’t show up unless they happen to not be dogshit and actually play playoff baseball.

40k on a Monday night at Busch is glorious

You’re in the wrong part of the state for southern values. KC side and even north are very conservative. St. Louis while a major part of traditional MO culture is pretty much the Austin TX of Missouri. The rest is nothing like it, and most of us stay out of St. Louis except for cardinals games. Columbia is getting just as bad these days also. And yea losing the border war and regional games really hurt the MU fanbase at least in my age group.

All true. The bad rap emanates from North St. Louis. Otherwise it's a great place to live, affordable, with easy traffic to navigate. It's a big reason so many former athletes stay in the area. They can be seen and still left alone.

Although it helped the team win in the 80's, I was relieved when DeWitt and his partners got rid of it before the '96 season.
