Looking back, he was a disaster. Terrible recruitor. Mildly autistic. Hated UF. Fat Bert tried to win. O has passion. Jim gave zero fricks. Gators, does Foley get some criticism here? His hiring skills are a bit suspect.

No, Dan Mullen clearly has been. He’s lost control of the program before coaching a game.

No he was part of some of Saban's top teams, did good at Colorado State, and is generally respected for his offensive acumen.

Compared to who Tenn hired, or Coach O, he was a slam dunk of a hire.

He won the East 2 out of the 3 years he was at UF, so I’m gonna go with no.

Especially when compared to the disasters Tennessee have hired.

He's the only coach I remember who just broke down and lost it mentally and emotionally. Sumlin was getting close, imo, but he held it together. Mac just checked out and begged to get canned

Absolutely Foley does, it was his 2nd disaster in a row, He was Legend status hiring in Non Revenue sports. He just couldn’t get football right, Mac was an increadbly stupid hire. He should have let his Ego go and asked for some help. Stricklin did the same as Foley and did it himself, he better be right.

Mcelwain did win 2 division titles.

I'd put Butch or Bert.

Yea but he did it with Muschamp's players mostly. Looking at the shitshow UF was last year and the dumpster fire it is currently, Mac set the program back several years

I still think Butch (and Bert to a lesser extent) are worse hires, but the margin is slim

I'm praying the answer to your question isn't Orgeron when it's all said and done.

I think it was a personality clash at Florida, more than anything. I believe the guy can coach, but having to do so in the SEC, and recruiting against some of these other coaches proved to be too much.

I think at the right program, he could be a very good hire. He did a fantastic job at Colorado State.

Not sure if he would be considered recent history, per se, but Mike Price says hello.
