Virtually every single classic SEC game ever played would have been meaningless

Remember that epic 2007 Florida vs. LSU game? Well, guess what, it hurt Florida's seed a bit, they might have gotten the #4 with a win but had to settle for a #7.

Remember the 2013 Iron Bowl? Sucks for Alabama losing the #1 seed, but only fell to #4, still get to host home playoff games though.

You can do this all day...

Pick any major top 10 match up that was a classic in SEC history and you will find that both of those teams are in the playoffs now.

Much like nobody much remembers or cares about NFL regular season games, the only big meaningful games going forward will be playoff games, the regular season is a glorified seeding contest.

You traded 4 months of meaningful games for 1 month of them.

Yep.

Oh, shite. We lost the Iron Bowl but we're still co-SEC champions, get a first round bye, and a home playoff game.

That is infinitely better than going from #1 to not being in contention for anything.

A 24 team playoff will make it better.

Crazy thing about that game…had the “Prayer at Jordan Hare” not happened the week before, Alabama would have still played for the SEC Title with that loss to Auburn and most likely would have played FSU for the Natty.

To play devil's advocate: the loser of that 2007 game now has only the Capital One Bowl ahead despite being one of the best teams in the country. (and Florida lost to a shitty 8-4 Michigan team, probably in no small part because they didn't give a shite).

8-4 Georgia squeaks into the 2013 playoffs too.

It’s going to be funny AF the first time an undefeated team with nothing to gain sits its starters for the last game of the season.

Incorrect.

Florida or LSU both get into a 24-team field with a 9-3 record in 2007.

I don't get how you can say it will make it better.

This is why I dont watch NFL regular season anymore and definitely dont watch MLB and NBA regular season.

It was a good run and those games were epic. I just watched Texas lose to OU on a last secodn field goal and my first thought was "well we can still shite the bed once or twice more and make the playoffs" and that is sad.

With the new 24 team playoff 8-4 gets you in likely every year.

Aggies welcome to the playoffs every year!

If Georgia loses to Auburn this weekend, I think you’d be hard pressed to find to find a UGA fan who shrugs and says, “that’s ok, we’re still in the playoff picture.”

Lots to play for in regular season even in a 12 or 24 team playoff. My opinion.

And if Georgia somehow loses to Auburn, yet still wins the national championship, you'll be hard pressed to find a UGA fan who shrugs and says, "Well, we still lost to Auburn..."

See Alabama fans in 2017 and Ohio State fans in 2024.

I meant to use the facetious or sarcasm font.

These knuckleheads and the 24 team playoff are going to kill the golden goose.

Gotcha. That makes more sense. We are in complete agreement then.

the last game?

shite man depending on November a team like UGA could sit guys in the last 3 weeks lol. this is a joke. If you lose one game you should be praying for things to happen in order for you to get a shot.

Past Alabama teams that would have made the expanded playoffs:

2008
2009
2010
2011
2012
2013
2014
2015
2016
2017
2018
2019
2020
2021
2022
2023
2024
2025

Seriously... even our worst season we were #11 going into the post-season. We lost 3 games in 2024 and would still be in the playoffs with the current format.

That's my point. Florida's season isn't done now. They lose a close game @ #1, it was fun, they still get to have something to play for now.

Tebow doesn't cry post-game after losing to Ole Miss in 2008 and this plaque never exists -

because a 1-loss Florida wouldn't have to sweat out the rest of the regular season to be top 2 BCS in a 12 or 24 team playoff -

Yep. And those 2008 and 2009 SEC Championship Game match-ups between Alabama and Florida don't have any stakes and probably don't even happen.
