: the loser of that 2007 game now has only the Capital One Bowl ahead despite being one of the best teams in the country.
They went 9-4 and were ranked 9th at the end of the regular season. A system that allows that team to have a shot at the title is dogshit.

how about the 2011 epic Bama/LSU game, that would be meaningless.
Oh wait, it was already meaningless without a playoff.
You see, some teams got the benefit of the doubt and losses didn't mean much before. Now that more teams will have that advantage, everyone is up in arms.
There is not a chance in hell that 2011 LSU team would have got a rematch if we lost to Bama on the road. Yet Bama lost at home and got a rematch.

You are picking the one exception to the rule and are saying, "See! It's always been like this!"
2011 was a strange year in that you had two dominant teams (Alabama and LSU) and everyone else. In hindsight I wish we hadn't gotten the rematch. It would have spared us all this bullshite.

We are all used to low IQ LSU fans picking strange things to be mad at, but here you are just mad at....math. It was a formula that put Bama ahead of OK State.

This has nothing to do with that. This is all about driving gambling revenue. The NCAA basketball tournament is a gigantic moneymaker for the sports books, so they're going to turn football into the same thing. The problem is that a big single-elimination tournament is a terrible way of determining a true champion.

Rivalries still mean something for now. However, that will be gone soon as well with the increasing of teams in the conference.

Time to leave the SEC for a cheesy conference to guarantee a playoff spot. Why stick around and suffer, when schools that play little sisters of the poor will have an auto-ticket to the playoffs starting next year.

And if Georgia somehow loses to Auburn, yet still wins the national championship, you'll be hard pressed to find a UGA fan who shrugs and says, "Well, we still lost to Auburn..."
You’re right. No argument with you there. I guess I was focused on “meaningless” in terms of rilvaries as opposed to just playoff picture.
It’s one of the reasons Kirby loves the SECCG. It means something to play the game and win.

Well hell I miss having the east and west in the SEC. Now I have to get use to not a 4 not a 12 but 24 team playoff? I miss the old days dam.

My Tigers ranked #22

Mark Richt would probably have won a few titles with this format. There were many years he had the team playing at that level at the end of the year but the annual early year loss or letdown in Jacksonville kept them out. Don't take that as support. How many great moments wouldn't have mattered with such a format. 45 years later for example does anyone still care about "Run Lindsay Run" anymore? Win or lose wouldn't have mattered. You shift the big moments like that from the top teams like that to the 24-30 teams. Doesn't seem like a win to me.
