You best hope Alabama doesn’t call Todd Bates home.

So if we extend Venables' analogy, if a committed player visits another school are they committing adultery or just premarital sex?

BV is actually telling kids to go visit other schools and only then make your choice once you know with conviction where you want to be. He is encouraging it not stopping it.

Seems some have a hard time comprehending. Go ahead and repeat the same drivel again, meanwhile we’ll continue to march up the recruiting boards.

Have a great Saturday

You are missing the point completely.

Football is not static. Coaches move. Support staff moves. Girlfriends move. Momentum moves.

A 51 year old coach is telling 17 and 18 year Olds that football isn't static. If they commit 18 months, 12 months, 6 months, or 1 month before signing day, they are not allowed to do the things (visits) that they are legally permitted to do.

It isn't a good look. It always backfires because no coach and no team is perfect but asking for level of loyalty regardless of what is happening in a 17 and 18 year Olds life?

You will change your tune. I promise.

Doesn't seem like "recruits" agree. He's having a monster weekend as we speak.

The approach worked at Clemson for a minute. But as soon as the honeymoon is over, the perception of a 51 year old taking away student athlete privileges turns into a negative recruiting game. Players talk.

OU won’t let bates go anywhere, they pay assistants more than bama does and he’s DC In waiting at OU

You might as well give up. Their mind is made up that BV is not letting kids take visits. You can tell them over and over that he is telling them to take all the visits they want before they commit, and it’s not going to sink in on on people who already have their minds made up. Don’t confuse them with the facts, just move on.

That what makes his recruiting run that much more impressive. Zero on-field product to sell. He’s only selling vision and culture and it’s working. In a world of gimmick recruiting pitches and money, he’s offering to provide a family culture.

Y’all better hope he doesn’t have even a mediocre season, because if he does the flood gates open up and OU becomes a perennial NC contender every season for the foreseeable future. He’s made a statement without coaching a down as head coach.

Saban said, "you shop, we shop". For some reason I think Nick's carries more weight.

Once they commit, he is.

You can justify in your head all of his words. But once a player commits, life still happens. Coaches move. Personnel moves. Girlfriends happen. New teams come courting (with new coaches).

When circumstances change for the player, is Venables worried about the player's needs? It doesn't sound like it. 17 and 18 year olds are not stagnant. It is laughable that you cannot see this.

I agree that he is selling vision and culture and that it is working. Again, Clemson had early returns with this approach.

Unfortunately, the honeymoon ends for the program and that is when this approach backfires. And when it backfires, the fan base turns against the approach quickly.

Kids talk. If a school (UGA or Bama) encourages kids to use all 5 visits even after they verbal, does OUs approach appear better? Seriously?

Yea he asks them to decommit if they choose to take visits…what’s hard to understand here?

That is a worse deal than 120 other schools.

It sounds great for fans when a coach starts the strategy.
When the strategy creates tension with recruits, the fan base turn on the strategy. It takes a couple of years.

Like you said, what's hard to understand?

Sounds like a lot and I mean a lot of people are getting scared right now …

And we are not even pitching NIL to recruits till they sign …. Money is always there .

They should be scared. OU will probably end up top 3 in recruiting. Lots of elite talent. Coaches with proven records of developing talent. By the time OU and Texas get to the SEC they’ll be ready. Especially OU. I’m waiting to see if there has actually been a culture change at Texas.

The exact same thing Clemson fans said. Bates not only played for Alabama but was born and raised in small town Alabama, about 100 miles from Tuscaloosa, where his family still lives. He would come home first chance he gets.
