I spent 4 years there. Norman, as a town is…Meh. Never fell in love with the city.

The Campus is beautiful, lots of cool gothic architecture. I’ve been to a lot of colleges for the gameday experience and Oklahoma is probably top 5 out of the 30 or so games I’ve been to outside Norman.

The education is great depending on what you want to focus on. They have one of the top meteorology programs in the world, high quality liberal arts and medicine programs.

The real value in going to OU, is being 15 minutes from Oklahoma City. I’ve travelled extensively and OKC is still one of my favorite places to visit. It’s a big city with a small town vibe.

The weather sucks dicks though, it’s always windy and each season is extreme.

I sat in the visitor section surrounded by OU fans. Those fans were some of the nicest fans I have ever sat with during a game. Very courteous, nice, well mannered, gracious etc. I got invited to numerous tailgates in Norman next year for AU's return trip.

I think a lot of the SEC fans will be surprised at how nice OU fans are. It really is a cultural thing in Oklahoma, I’ve been living in Tampa for the last 14 years and it still almost weirds me out how nice people are there. Nebraska has a similar vibe.

Definitely try to plan a trip out to Norman to watch a game if you haven’t been. Just start a conversation with some rando running a tailgate outside the stadium and they’ll probably feed you food and beer all day.
Seems fitting that cult would describe anything as a sacrifice.

And then shortly thereafter, you will be sorry you ever rooted for them. The things you dislike about Tennessee, OU will bring at you 10-fold.

OU and Texas posters have been around here long enough for the SEC fan base to get a sense of who is and isn’t annoying AF.

Which is probably why this thread was created in the first place.

Michigan will dominate the entire game and then somehow let Texas back in the fourth quarter. Texas by a field goal.
It’s worth having Kiffin in the SEC for the non-football content.

I personally don’t think either team is as good as advertised. This will go to the fourth quarter and someone will win or lose in the kicking game and everyone will call this the game of the year. Then Texas will lose by 14 to Miss State 3 weeks later or some bullshite.
They’re both going 10-3.

Texas knew their first year in the SEC would would make or break them, so they paid for the easiest schedule money could buy. It’s fairly obvious.

Oklahoma will get by, they’re better than most people are predicting. But that schedule is absolutely brutal.

They don't like each other.

The Oklahoma-Texas rivalry has historically turned to armed military conflict.

When I was in school, the RRSO had the entire west end lined with riot teams because of all the fights that broke out.

I don’t know what it’s like these days, but the hate is real.

re: Question for Texas and Oklahoma fans

Almost everyone seems legitimately excited so far, which has been a bit surprising. Mizzou and A&M fans have naturally been the most insecure about the whole thing.

Venables was knee jerk.

Lol what? Venables coached a national championship team AT OU. Has recruiting ties in the south and Texas. Coached 3 National championship defenses.

Lololol, wut?

Venables is the antithesis of a knee jerk hire. Literally the opposite.
It really feels knee jerk. They hire the shiny new thing with a good run. How many dozens of coaches have been hired by teams that had a good run or did “more with less”.

No real recruiting ties to the south, no real history with the program, literally one really good season.

Feels like this is going to end poorly.
It’s a bit different in the transfer portal.

A major delay will come off like Bama didn’t have a plan, coaches will smell blood in the water and start picking off recruits and players. The ultimate alpha move would have been if on the same day Saban retired they had a guy lined up. That didn’t happen and now the clock is ticking.
Where’s your god now….?
Oklahoma is a weird cultural fit anywhere. I’ve lived in Tampa mostly since jointing the army in 2008, and after traveling around a lot Oklahoma really is its own thing. A mix of southern, Native American, mid-west, south-west, Hispanic and northern plain Cowboy cultures.

As far as the SEC, OU doesn’t feel an allegiance to any anything really, even in the Big 12 it always felt like to me like we were outsiders. It’ll be interesting to see which schools we get along with. From my time at OU we always had a weird connection with Alabama, even when they sucked. Those home and home games in the 2000s were awesome. Definitely had a traditional power vibe. From personal experience I think we’ll get along with the Mississippi schools and Arkansas fan bases, LSU will be more of a rival, frick texas, the rest will be wild cards.

But really, it could have been the SEC or the Big Ten, we’re just glad to be out of the Big 12. I don’t think we’re as eager for acceptance as, say, A&M. We just want better games.

OU-Missouri are definitely rivals.

No actual Oklahoma fan, probably ever, has considered Missouri a rival.

Missouri considering us a rival is new to me. OU had a good year and another top ten recruiting class. With Okie State gone, someone will have to fill the vacuum and it’s probably not going to be Mizzou…..

You might want to focus your attention on the Arizona game, your team is melting.

5 interceptions with an entire new offense. And it’s tied. Melting seems like an intense exaggeration.

Ahhh yes, props on the first win over Oklahoma in a generation. I’m sure that weird PF on the coach arguing a non-PI had nothing to do with it.

Good luck playing in the newest mid-major.
