The exact same thing Clemson fans said. Bates not only played for Alabama but was born and raised in small town Alabama, about 100 miles from Tuscaloosa, where his family still lives. He would come home first chance he gets.

There’s a good chance his next job will be DC at OU.

This 4* DE kid was a Tx legacy right out of Austin Westlake. 10th commit in the last month. I’d say OU/Venables recruiting is working. He just visited Tx this weekend but chose OU. This whole thread is about worried and jealous fans of sec teams. The attacks on Venables and reading comprehension failures are littered all over this thread.

OU tells recruits to go visit all and any school they want before they commit. This kid is proof of what they are doing and this kid chose OU over his legacy school. He now committed to OU and will shut down his visits and focus on his senior year.

Austin, Texas DL Colton Vasek on choosing OU over Texas/

“Coach Venables has coached in eight national championships and the new culture he is creating at Oklahoma is something I want to be a part of.”

“I love Coach V,” Vasek previously told On3 of his relationship with first-year Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables.

“Coach V, coming from that Clemson style, it’s a real family feel. Also, the coaches around them have chemistry with their players and I like how they care about them outside of football is big there.”

Equally as important have been assistants Miguel Chavis and Todd Bates, who like Venables came to Norman and brought a similar tenacity for defensive football and similar Clemson-esque culture.

“Coach Chavis and Coach Bates, I love both of them,” Vasek added. “When I was up there, I hung out with the players and they had nothing but good things to say about the new staff.”
