Saw this first on TikTok without any context, it was just labeled ‘USC mascot reveal’. Was legitimately confused. Started doubting myself and wondering if USC had other mascots that wore shoes that weren’t Trojan sandals

Meet Sarah Sylvester.
She is a biomedical engineering student at the University of South Carolina and served as the school's mascot, "Cocky," for two years.
So, as is the tradition at USC, she revealed herself at graduation by walking across the stage in Cocky feet.

Wish you would find a reason to go outside and touch grass

Honestly I thought this was just how every mascot did it.
but yeah the students who are cocky stay anonymous for their college years and this is how they show they are cocky. Obviously a few people close to them know they are cocky but in general its secretive.

I once witnessed Cocky, out of costume, almost get in a fight with the pep band graduate assistant at the SEC Basketball Tournament

A friend married an ex-Hairy Dawg and I worked with another on campus. It sounded like a pretty tough try out to get the gig. Though fun, it is probably a tough job, so they should get recognition for it.

I met an ex Albert the Gator. He said that there were 5 of them and the best, grades, spirit, etc. Got to do football and basketball games. Others followed around University President, Athletic Director, minor sports teams.

That is a really neat tradition. Well done, USCjr.

It’s definitely cool, but I’m pretty sure every school does this. At LSU I know for a fact that the Mikes wear the paws or feet under their robe.

I remember at a baseball game years ago, Cocky was standing behind our seats talking to someone associated with the athletics program about walking over to take pictures with a group of kids. Cocky proceeded to mutter under his breath "I'm tired of all these damn photos with these annoying arse kids." Needless to say, I laughed my arse off.

Pretty cool though it kinda has an uncanny valley feel watching a real human person behave like I know that particular mascot is supposed to behave. Can’t explain it, it just kind of fricks with me

That is really cool. Aubie is a one piece outfit, so there is no way to take the feet or head off.
PS: most of the kids talented enough to be a mascot are also quirky in real life. Takes a really creative mind.

In High School, I was voted "Most School Spirit" my Sr. year. I always wanted to be the mascot...
