I get Kirby’s point but fans, who pay the bills, want the game to stay in Jax. It’s a great tradition. I’ve never thought I’d like to see a game in the Swamp.

How so? I just went back to 2000 & the LSU/Ala. game was played ~5X before at least 6PM. That's about once every 4 years.

The Bama/LSU time slot isn’t predetermined like the UGA/FLA game is. Why do you think that is?

The only reason why you say this is because Alabama-Auburn is the conference's most intense and famous rivalry.

In its day Legion Field was a college football shrine. I don’t even know what the frick the name of the stadium is in Jacksonville.

Can you not drink cocktails in Athens and Gainesville?

Georgia and Florida recruiting have been crippled for years by the location of this game. Clearly.

Doesn't have to be crippled for it to be hampered, and nobody wants to hamper their recruiting efforts.

Try not to be obtuse.

How many on here would like to see their rivalry game put off limits for recruits to be at?

Agree. The popularity of CFB is a stand alone entity and I watch the NFL. CFB is great because it’s CFB, the more it tries to be NFL Lite the more its relevancy will fade. How many experiments have to be run to prove that folks are t interested in a second pro football league.

I don't care where the game is played, but are you under the impression that if the game is not in JAX it will not sell out? the "fans that pay the bills" will go to the game wherever it is played, or there will be other fans that will take their place.

Poor Kirby, what an underdog story this guy is. It's amazing he is able to overcome all of the natural disadvantages he faces at UGA.

This coming from a fan of the team that screamed they wanted the DSOR moved to the first of the season because it was unfair to play it later in the season?

Please xplain all of the natural disadvantages Auburn has.
You can start with explain why not being the Flagship School is a disadvantage.

To make this argument but not acknowledge the fact getting to play in what is perceived as one of the best/most unique environments in college football is also a recruiting tool is intellectually dishonest. Though I guess Kirby isn't know for his intellectual prowess in the first place.

His argument is that we cannot host recruits at our biggest rivalry game. Imagine not being able to host recruits for the Iron Bowl. How would that make you feel?

Lift the ban on neutral site games. Problem solved.

The Iron Bowl belonged in Birmingham until it got moved and now no one would want to put the game back there.
No comparison at all between Birmingham and Jax. Legion Field is in the middle of a crime-infested slum. Jax is in close proximity to many south Georgia and north Florida beaches.

There is no conference or ncaa ban on hosting recruits at neutral locations

Don't know how many times this has to be stated.

Bleacher Report

quote:

The SEC has amended their rules to allow the home team to give tickets to recruits for neutral site games, but according to Michael Carvell of ajc.com, Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity and Florida AD Jeremy Foley have agreed to not allow recruits at the game.

Now that article is from 2012. Not sure if the rules have changed since then, but if it’s strictly based on the ADs, then we need to let our admins know they should lift it.

They have, but that’s not gonna get a recruit to Athens for the Florida game.

Exactly.

The "gentlemens agreement" between UGA and UF needs to be tossed.

Texas and OU have the same arrangement playing in Dallas every season and I have never heard a peep from them about recruiting disadvantages. Only Georgia, who recruits better than Florida, Texas and OU seems to not be able to see benefit of the Cocktail party.

Fine by me, I’m not fighting anyone over any of it. We have been forced to give up other traditions and rivals so it’s not surprising. Kirby seems to have achieved a god like status with the Bulldog boosters for no one to challenge him on it. Kind of like UF with no one challenging Spurrier if they disagree with him, so I get it.

I think the fans will be the ones who lose out in this case. No one gives a shite about the fans because they keep getting screwed over and continue to give their money. I think it is insane.
