You do know the players don’t even know you guys are alive yet you are sitting their as grown men crying because your old butt can’t take the 15 seconds to us google for your team roster when the device is literally in your hand.

And sure the novelty will wear off in about 70 years for Indiana type fans like it has for you.

The bottom line is this board has become a whinefest because your teams are losing. We NEVER saw these type of threads when LSU, Bama, UGA, Tenn, were winning Natties. Instead, you guys made thread after thread about how everyone else sucked and that our coaches sucked and our fans sucked because we weren’t selling out stadiums for 6-6 teams. It’s just funny how quickly the bullies become crybabies over 19 year olds.

If things were the way the should be Ole Miss isn’t playing Oklahoma in November. Oklahoma is playing Okie State or Nebraska in a rivalry game where records don’t matter and Ole Miss isn’t playing a regional rival where the records do t matter…and all teams are playing with players who were recruited and developed and and no one cares about playoffs.

Don’t think anyone is blaming the athletes. They should take the money. It is the idiots in charge who allowed it to happen.

This board didn’t exist in 1998

get the very broad, high level, macro point you're making and it's not entirely without merit. But you're extremely wrong that things haven't changed

Respectfully I never said things haven’t changed, you presumed. Yes, things have changed a lot from my days watching Joe Namath play in Tuscaloosa.

My Saturdays are getting fewer like us all. I will enjoy everyone of them until I can’t. What the Suits and.Money people do is not my concern.

I don’t like it but what can I do?

Good luck this season and I hope you enjoy your Saturdays.

Only thing keeping the NFL at its high level is gambling and fantasy football. Same will happen to college football without more rules to stifle the money game we have now. Playoffs are the only games that have meaning now.

It was never going to last. Fans share in the blame too, though.

The same fans who complain about loyalty are the ones who would rather their school sign a five star from California than a four star from Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa, or wherever.

The same fans who want players to value a college scholarship are the same ones who want their school sign a kid who does not belong in higher education but is a physical freak of nature.

The same fans who get furious when Tommy Touchdown transfers out are the same ones who just say “Oh well” when Marty Mediocre gets processed and replaced with someone better.

That's why you have a 32 team playoff and eliminate bowl games

Was Alabama ever able to stop that inside trap??

It wasn't the inside trap. His precise quote was "we just gotta stop that little inside trout".

Unfortunately, Bama never stopped the inside trout that day. Kines was a big supporter of Bass Pro Shops and he was always talking about the trout they keep inside, in their aquariums.

Bama's only chance to win that game was the old, reliable Darby Up The Middle and it just didn't work.

Most of us will never be that rich...sucks. Most of us prob make anywhere from 80k-150k a year...most of us probably drive Trucks, like BBQ, and like women with big butts, and will work til we are around 70ish until we can retire.

My routine has already changed.

Pre covid I would arrange my schedule around Alabama football. I have not attended a game since then. I have changed from having season tickets for several years to not even watching every Alabama game on TV because it doesn’t matter as much to me. I still am a huge fan of Alabama, but I don’t feel compelled to support a bunch of 18 year old millionaires with my hard earned time and money, especially when they will just as likely be gone in a year to the next highest bidder. Most players today have zero loyalty to their school or fanbase. Why should fans feel any loyalty towards them? I am simply not a huge fan of what college football has evolved into.

I agree completely, except as an LSU fan obviously. Maybe it's 'cause we're older (i think you and I are similar in age, I turn 53 soon) and it just feels different. It's not the same. We remember the days of hard hitting nasty defenses (which they put a stop to) and players who went all out because they wanted that big payday in the NFL.

I just don't feel the same passion from players or fans that I used to and it's definitely changed for me......and not in a good way.

I don't get hyped about the games like I used to anymore.

But hey now the 24 year old players are multi millionaires which is what everyone wanted all along, right?

Much to unpack in your statement. Let me try.
1. Only a handful are millionaires out of a roster of 105 thereabouts..
2. Coaches have always left players hanging by jumping ship. Why should players not have same ability?
3. Im a capitalist. Highest bidder works fine for me.
4. Loyalty, again back to coaches leaving. I bet majority of players 2-4 star, non NFL true prospects play for the school they grew up rooting for if possible.

Finally, you and I did not make the current financial mess and lthe lack of rules enforcement is an Ncaa and conference problem. Im just a simple fan who enjoys Saturday football

I control like you what affects me. Hope you regain your joy of the game and let the suits battle over money and position.

I am a capitalist as well…doesn’t mean there has to be pay for play and unlimited transfers. And coaches moving to new jobs…as adults who sign contracts and get hired and fired…are not the same as a college student have a fantastic opportunity..:but not a right…to play a game and get a free education. I have no problem with unlimited transfers…they should just have to sit a year in order to play. Those were the rules. You want to play…play by the rules.

Kajon, you say you don’t feel the same passion from fans. I’d ask, what fans are you hanging around? If it’s your small little bubble then welcome to my world for the past 60 years when my bubble knew we were going to lose a game because the other team had paid for players.

Do you not understand for every fanbase that feels down right now there is another fanbase that feels up and can’t wait for the season? You SEC fans are just spoiled and now that you don’t get a new bike every year at Christmas now you think the holiday sucks. It’s still the same, it’s just different kids getting new bikes.

If Ole Miss or Souh Carolina had just done what Indiana has done over the past 2 years you guys would be screaming how much tougher your conference is and how great all your teams are when a has been team can win a Natty. But because it’s a BIG school in a place where it snows y’all want to act like the sport is dying. If anything, the sport is growing as you have more interested fans in the midwest. What would really help the sport is for USC or UCLA to become good again so the west coast has teams they can support.

We could have a playoff system without unlimited transfers and money shopping

im aware of that

My point is even without nil and portal no one would care about bowl games like the one cited in the op anymore because of the playoff system

You should change your name to "RunningMouth" lol j/k

Anyways, I don't live in a bubble. I've been many places and currently live a ways from where I grew up and I'm around many fans of all places. No one talks about football as much as they used to, there's less excitement (both NFL and college).

People still watch and celebrate it, but not like it used to be. I for one quit watching NFL altogether as it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. I can't completely put it into words, it's just a feeling and things I've noticed.

I hear you and understand what you ares saying but when you step back you’ll realize that’s a you issue regarding excitement. I know for a lot of fanbases season ticket sales are high and the excitement is building. Miami fans are pumped. VT fans are pumped. LSU fans are pumped. A&M fans are pumped. Texas fans are pumped. GT has sold more season tix the past few years than we’ve seen in decades. I presume UGA fans are pumped as they are one of the top 2 contenders with a returning proven QB and young talent.

But I do understand a lot of fans who normally take 9 wins for granted are no longer into it when they see losses to finish out a season instead of wins.
