Opened that season ranked #3 in the country. Returned the opening kickoff for a TD (may have been a punt). Was making plans for Atlanta and the national championship before halftime. Proceeded to lose that game and seven more.

I was at the 2000 Alabama/UCLA game at the Rose Bowl. I was rooting for the Bruins and surrounded by Bama fans who were were really cool. No trash talking directed towards me. There is a reason Vince Dooley never took Georgia out West to play USC or UCLA. He was a coward. At least Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU and South Carolina were not afraid to get on a plane to play the L. A. schools. Zero respect for Dooley.

The only thing I remember about that game was Brent Mussberger getting mad at all the hippies protesting in the trees.

Well this concerns me

There will be no late night West coast shenanigans this time. Auburn is going to take care of business and do the SEC proud Saturday night and we gonna walk out of that stadium like a bunch of hoodrats running out of a San Francisco Walgreens after bleeding it dry.

Even before seeing this stat, I would've said No. So, I'm sticking with No.

How many of those teams beat The New England Patriots the week before to open the season?

I forgot about that...that was when they were protesting IN the trees. They were stirred up because they were going to cut down some trees to build an athletic department facility.

Wasn't this the game that gave us the classic Nutt quote: They score so fast, it messes you up!

Common thread seems to be “not good teams”

My favorite part was when he said that they were going to plant three trees for each tree they removed in its place, and, "That's a good deal for any treehugger!"

Easily the most disappointing season in my lifetime, #3 coming off a SEC title...then complete and utter implosion. From players to coaches... absolutely no leadership after Shaun Alexander and Chris Samuels left for the draft after the '99 season.

That's a really good stat. Embarrassing, but also a really good stat.

There's a reason why UCLA is referred to as the, "gutty little Bruins". They have a knack for beating the giants of CFB. Ask number 1 ranked Nebraska and number 1 ranked Ohio State - both lost the the Bruins at the Roses Bowl.

This is also because all those really great SEC teams that made the playoffs (which meant several Rose Bowls) never got a P12 team in the playoffs with them.

What about the Rose Bowls? Is it not still in California?
