Elway’s dad, Jack Elway coached at San Jose State and Stanford. He was arrested for DUI while an active coach.

Darryl Strawberry’s brother was a member of the L.A.F.D. and came close to being shot by a sniper while putting out fires.

re: JFK Jr. death

The Kennedy curse. Joe Kennedy was a naval aviator who died in a test flight. JFK’s sister died in a plane crash doing a U.S. Bond tour. Ted Kennedy injured his back in a plane crash. JFK Jr’s mom Jackie did not want him to take flying lessons. He honored her wish while she was alive. That flight was doomed from the beginning. Totally senseless.
re: Zillow is now forecasting home values to drop in every large US metro over the next year

I’ve been to Tennessee and liked the Eastern part of the state, the rest not so much. SF is a truly unique American city along with NYC, Miami and New Orleans. I worked in SF for 27 years and explored the city by foot. It is the most European city in the U.S. There is a reason the average home price is about $1.3 million. Cities like Boston, Nashville, Los Angeles and Austin are cool, but they are not that unique.

Downtown SF and the Tenderloin are not that great. If you go to the outlying areas like the Sunset, the Richmond and other areas it’s great. The San Francisco haters are mostly tourists from flyover states who spend three days there and claim to be experts. SF has a low rate of violent crime. There were about 50 murders last year in a city of over 800,000. Most of the crime is theft and property crime.

RICO decimated the Five Families. The notorious hit men like Roy DeMeo, Tommy “Karate” Pitera and Anthony Casso are a thing of the past. DeMeo and his crew were responsible for over 200 murders.

TV, the internet, the proliferation of radio, the introduction of youth culture, space exploration, satellites, America’s population explosion to 330 million, medical technology including breakthroughs in detecting and treating various diseases, the changing racial landscape of America through immigration, twenty-something year old billionaires, the sexual revolution.

His high school coach at Power Memorial was steering him to St. John’s; but after the coach used the “N-word” to describe a couple of black players, Kareem and another Black teammate were so upset that they went out and smashed some windows. Hello UCLA.

If he goes to UCLA, he will have to go to class.

The only solution is to demand payment after ordering and adding a gratuity on the bill. No exceptions.
re: What Is The Most Bizarre Death You’ve Ever Heard Of?

The guy who was filling a truck tire with air. He decided to pleasure himself while looking at a porno mag while waiting for the tire to inflate. The tire blew up and killed him. It was on a TV show called A 1,000 Ways To Die.

I used to go to Cal football games. Duritz, a Berkeley grad, had a sideline pass. He would hop around, much like Matthew McConauGHEY does at UT games. I believe he was dating Winona Ryder at the time.

Mamma Cass didn’t choked on a ham sandwich. She suffered a heart attack. The partially eaten sandwich was on a nightstand.
re: Why are the vast majority of protestors at these anti Trump/Elon events old white boomers?
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 4/6/25 at 10:34 am
I was about to post the same thing. I was at downtown Seattle yesterday and came across several protesters who had come from an event at the Seattle Center. Majority were retirement age and overwhelmingly white with passive-aggressive faces. So much for diversity.
re: I think prime Mike Tyson would have thrived in UFC, with no ground game.
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 4/5/25 at 11:08 am
Boxers have the best hand techniques and the best footwork. I have seen high-ranking UFC competitors awkwardly lunge while throwing punches, leaving them open for a Tyson uppercut. No need for a ground game.
re: How to stop solicitors
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 4/3/25 at 2:32 pm
I have had a problem with solicitors-usually involving things like window replacement, gutters and pest control. I never give them my business. Legitimate businesses don’t rely on solicitation. Also, these businesses typically don’t have an online profile on sites like Yelp.
re: Did the NIT used to be “bigger”?
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 4/1/25 at 9:30 pm
The NCAA basketball tournament consisted of about 24 teams in 1965. The NCAA tournament was much more selective then. There were outstanding teams that weren’t selected and therefore the NIT was a better tournament than it is today.

Maple Valley is not in Seattle; it’s about 25 miles S.E. of Seattle. Sherman lives in a mansion with a gated entrance. The average income in Maple Valley is about $120,000.
