I spent a lot of time in Berkeley when I lived in nearby Oakland. Telegraph Ave. is a good hang with lots of affordable eating establishments. However, UC Berkeley and the adjacent area is a high crime area. Lots of students robbed in the area south of campus. Many Asians targeted.

I was surprised to learn that Obama was able to significantly reduce the number of homeless vets by while in office. I’ll give him credit for that.

U.S. Army, Chu Lai 67-68. I served with a very elite unit-the 258th REMF Company. We went on secret missions to the PX. Even the Marines on base respected and feared us.

Los Angeles is always a good road trip despite what the haters say. If you can’t have a good time there then that’s your fault.

Yes, you can say that the Rose Bowl is a “dump”, but on January 1st it’s the best place to be if you like CFB. After watching the Rose Bowl Game, the Sugar Bowl seems like a letdown. Not a fan of indoor stadiums.

Lenny was a Seattle legend. He was raised by his single white mother and had to endure racial harassment from kids in his Brooklyn neighborhood. His biggest disappointment was being cut from the 1960 Olympic basketball team. Never heard a bad thing about him.

“You know it, you tell the story, tell the whole damn world this is Bear territory.” Huge win for Cal.

Fry died from pneumonia and colitis due to medical malpractice. He was supposed to have surgery for his rheumatoid arthritis. His doctor put him on immune suppressing medication. The family sued for malpractice and won a judgment.

From my understanding, Lincoln and his wife love living in Los Angeles.
re: Ever had a family member in a nursing home?
Posted by West Seattle Dude on 11/4/25 at 9:02 am to notiger1997
My 89-year-old mother fell and broke her ankle and did her rehab in a nursing home for 2-3 months. Afterwards, I put her in a group home because she needed 24 assistance. About two months into her stay she developed breathing problems.
Instead of calling 911 where the fire station was blocks away, the director of the home called a commercial ambulance service which took about 30-40 minutes to arrive. I went to the hospital thinking that my mother had been taken there by the fire dept. I waited and waited at the ER for over 90 minutes for her to arrive. She died hours later.
The reason the adult home owner didn’t call 911 was because she was afraid of how it would affect their rating because of excessive 911 calls. I was furious. I contacted a lawyer and received a low 6-figure settlement. The woman who ran the changed the name and location of her business. My mother was a sweet, kind, devout Catholic who had a hard life. As an only child, I miss her so much. Her wedding ring was also missing.

I used to work in the Financial District in the City (SF). There would be days when the temperature in SF would be in the low 60s and the temperature in Concord, which was approximately 30 miles away, would be in the low 90s.

Was hoping to hear Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” after the final out. It’s better to be hated than ignored.

I’m 78 and have been following CFB since the late 50s. I remember Billy
Cannon’s 89 yard punt return against Ole Miss and the Chinese Bandits. In MLB, I celebrated the Milwaukee Braves beating the Yankees in the 57 Series. I watched the Baltimore Colts beating the NY Giants in the 1958 NFL championship. That game, called the greatest game ever played, ushered in the new era of the NFL.

Well, that’s like your opinion, man. The players do love the playing surface and the Rose Bowl Game is still special. It seems that most of the hate towards the Rose Bowl comes from insecure SEC fans.

The Rose Bowl, Memorial Stadium in Berkeley and the Yale Bowl are nice alternatives to the soulless modern steel and glass stadiums. Just my opinion.

America is the easiest country to become a millionaire. There are more Black millionaires in America than the entire African continent of over a billion people. If you’re not succesful that’s your problem.

Entertaining game. Cal’s shot to become bowl eligible will have to come with a win against either Stanford or SMU. I don’t see them beating ranked Virginia or Louisville. In Berkeley, a 6-6 season is concerned a success.
