They have to blame him for the whole mess....its the only play left for them.
If they stick with him they put themselves in opposition to the rest of the conference moving forward. There's no other way out for them but to shtcann him.

LSU has yet to sue the SEC or make any defamatory remarks towards the SEC at all, while the SEC is suing LSU and threatening to kick them out the SEC with leaks to the media

Exactly this... while LSU is in the light and taking the heat, there's nearly 20 schools that have either had a player join within the questionable circumstances and/or solicited those players to join their teams - across a dozen sports.
