You must have missed the Bill Curry and Mike Shula eras.

Clearly, you are not.

Not just curry and shula, but dubose, fran and price. When they finally did start winning you couldn’t get to close to a gathering because the smell of mothballs was overpowering.

The DUMBEST list ever linked on this site. Agree with others that SC and UK should be at the top.

I think the Ags should be ranked ahead of us. People call them a cult for a reason. They are fiercely loyal. I'd put us somewhere in the middle. We have a lot of die hard fans but we have a lot of bandwagon fans.

Somehow Florida is on a 18 or 19 home game sellout streak during the worst coaching tenure since World War One. That has to count for something.

Right? It's easy to be loyal when your team is winning. a true "loyalty" list would be how well a program is supported when they suck. That's true loyalty.

Name another fan base that would sell out their stadium after going 0-21. I'll hang up and listen...

Yeah, exactly. I'd argue when it comes to football, when you factor in success v attendance, South Carolina and Kentucky have consistently been the most loyal fan bases BY FAR in this conference.
The old joke when I was a kid was that if you parked on the street and accidentally left a Kentucky football ticket on your dash in Lexington, when you came back you would have 3.
Even when they were winning in the late 70s, buying tickets from scalpers when you were walking into the stadium for about 1/2 what you were expecting to pay, was not unusual.

Im old enough to remember when alabama had the three blind mikes, the FBI couldn’t find an alabama fan.
Then you must be old enough to be senile, because I was in middle school and high school during that period and remember Bryant-Denny (and Legion Field) being full for every game.

Bama fans all get raised to believe we will win the natty every year because we are the good guys and the ghost of Bear is shining down upon us. We all get raised to believe our school is classy, and good, and true. It is a religion more literally than most people are comfortable admitting. Commonly, I have been to church services that reflect that, saying things like "if we could only get people to care about their relationship with God as much as they care about football."
We dont have as much to do as most states. We have church, family and football here. And while we have millions of fans, and have loads of fair weather fans by default of the massive droves of fans, we really do have a wildly loyal fanbase. We will fill those stands every week. Tuscaloosa is a small town. People travel every single week from afar. We go broke on merch.
For better or for worse, whether God himself would agree that we are/aren't the most loyal fanbase, i think we are worthy of a top slot from everything i have ever seen.
Cue the "living off a dead Bear" jokes.

Agreed… advantage to aggy for unwavering loyalty, and love of their traditions and school…

We definitely would not… I’ve been there during leaner times…
I remember Fred Akers coaching UT when I was in school. I remember our fans thinking his offensive play calls were so predictable, they would yell “turn the page, Fred!”…

I don’t doubt that at all. But you didn’t see all the toothless sidewalk fans, they had disappeared. And that’s a fact.

Tennessee should be higher than Bama, Georgia, LSU, and Texas. I get that we have a lot of trolls on here but if you are a legit Tennessee fan still you should get a medal or something for all the crap we have went through

quote:Am I lying about the fact that fan support was strong enough to justify expanding the stadium during that period?
he isn't lying.
quote:Again, revisionist history.
I grew up in Florida. We would go to B'ham for Thanksgiving every year. During the bear years, 8 of 9 trucks had the bama see-through mesh on the back window. bama shite everywhere. During the mike years, you wouldn't see anything bama for miles and miles. saban showed up and bama fans came out from under every rock and crevice.
I lived in Alabama during the late 90's and the 2000's, and I was at plenty of home games. The fact that people are raised as either Alabama or Auburn fans and live with it as a large part of their identities didn't just go away for ten years.
Auburn people need to tell themselves that they're better fans because what else are they going to do, claim that their program is equally as successful?

The most loyal fanbase in the SEC is South Carolina, hands down.
They were filling a huge stadium while losing 70% of their games.

If you need any more evidence that the list is crap, here is the stadium of the #2 team on the list. Loyal? Yeah, right.

I pretty much see all y’all original SEC members giving credit to South Carolina for undying loyalty. They have earned my respect!

I'm an LSU fan, and idk about this one... Have you seen how empty the stadium is for games when we suck?
