It took so many decades for the NFL to realize the importance of OL. People want to watch their multimillion dollar athletes go score points. They don’t know how to mentally model a reward mechanism for watching open running lanes and clean pockets.
Half of people are always going to be dumber than average. That’s been Florida’s lot for a while. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.

I think this is honestly his most pathetic frick up to date
But he’s 33 now. A&M has stood behind him. That’s his community.
Well now they have an entire offseason to think about what was, what could have been, and how Manziel couldn't even bother showing up after agreeing to. I think this should be the final straw. If I were a fan/booster that had stood behind him, it certainly would be for me. As far as fanbase psychology goes, big losses demand a villain, and he is a candidate. His lack of presence almost certainly didn't affect the outcome, but fan is short for fanatic.

They refuse to give up the Seminole War Canoe when they lose the rivalry game. frick em, gig em, whatever needs to happen until Coral Gables is reclaimed by the Atlantic.

Putting aside him being a Gator homer, he sucks.
If he is, he hides it very well. If anyone gets a pass in the state, it has been Miami in my experience. But I have purposefully avoided him for a long time now. He's just terrible and whenever I see his name mentioned it is always attached to something stupid.

If it was the players that went 4-8 then why did yall fire the coach?
Are you competing for dumbest poster? You do know the coach put together the roster, right?
Anyhow, I think the roster was far better than 4-8.

I've heard nothing about Baugh. You have any source?
That would be the first misstep of the Sumrall regime. He hyped Baugh up in his first press conference. You don't hype a guy up and then let him leave unless the price was extremely higher than his value.

re: Florida chased off Lagway?

Another sensible move. Lagway could turn out to be the best QB of all time, but he's more likely to be a dud. He will demand to start. He's also entrenched and talented enough (at times) to scare off big talents from transferring in. On top of that, before this season started the rumor was that Lagway would need shoulder surgery after the season. If true, that is another offseason with limited work. And keep in mind it is likely his last offseason in college. NFL keeps drafting these bad QBs with raw talent like Richardson.
I believe that he's just too much of a gamble for a first-year coach to count on. Sure, it could pay off. He may be the 2026 Heisman. But, it is smarter to not take the bet.

I turned it off in 2010. Got too boring. Who cares about the rest?
Seriously though, why is Florida State blue and Florida green?

The guy who threw the shoe was a captain for the coin toss next game. That shows why Mullen's tenure ended so dramatically and suddenly. There was never any accountability for anyone and over time people figure that out. One hell of a play caller though...

It’s so weird seeing a Florida coach actually going out to get good coaches. It tainted the start of every new regime seeing the coaching community at large seemingly refuse to join the latest idiot we hired.
Either that, or the previous head coaches really thought their old staff from the prior school was good enough.

re: Texas hires former FL RB Coach Jabbar Juluke

Juluke was incredible. Montrell Johnson, Trevor Etienne, and Jadan Baugh. Johnson was pretty good (pre injury especially) and every RB seemed a lot better than the previous.
This year the room had a couple injuries and there wasn’t anyone to really share the load with Baugh. So I guess you could ding him for not having a solid 4th and 5th string ready, but the headliners were all very good. I’d have liked for him to stay at Florida.

This is shaping up to be the most exciting staff assembled at Florida in a really long time. Whether it translates to wins or not, who knows. But it is extremely encouraging.
The last two coaches just hired friends. Prime example being Mark Hocke. Napier's S&C guy from Louisiana Lafayette was made one of the highest paid strength and conditioning coaches in the country. I think he was the 2nd highest paid in 2022. An article says in 2023 he was still the 4th highest paid. In 2023 he also got extended. Then 2024 he got "transitioned" into being a Director of Player Relations getting paid 750k per annum. Guy goes from being paid the 2nd most in the country, to not even being deemed worthy of holding the job title. How does that happen? Was Napier getting kickbacks?
This is the quintessential Billy Napier story. It was just never-ending retardation. And the worst part was that his on-field game day performance made his off-field performance look masterful in comparison.

There's just not many Florida fans here, and I think half the prominent ones aren't even actually Florida fans.

Merlins lies, a lot. I think the new era of college football suits him very well. It covers over a lot of his recruiting failure. But, it doesn’t do anything to hide his crap personality. It doesn’t do anything for his stubbornness. The guy decided to keep Grantham four seasons until he sinks them all. Samford scored like 52 points on Florida before the nightmare could end.

Just curious how FLA fans feel about him….i thought yalls defense had been pretty good the past couple of years
Florida fans for the most part loved him last year. Don't let them tell you differently now. After he was promoted midseason in 2024, it was a good defense when previously it had been terrible. The change was overnight. After Napier got fired this season the defense more or less gave up except for a couple games. Lagway's play was enough to demoralize any defense watching from the sidelines. So, Roberts doesn't even really have a full years worth of numbers to look at.
I think the constant two high safeties really relies on those front seven to be studs. When they got sad, other teams would just run over them and it was a disaster until full time. Roberts seems hesitant to adapt in these situations. He would rather get run over all game than give up a deep pass. Another downside of Roberts is that he doesn't seem to respect 3rd or 4th and 1. Throughout the year we would have these critical downs where everyone in the stadium knew it would be an inside run with 80%+ certainty. Yet, he rarely if ever could get the stop. Sometimes there would be just 3 defenders with their hand in the dirt, and the opponent converts 100% of the time in that case.
So, I've a lot of good things to say about him, but he does have some critical flaws. The flaws are very easy to see even as a casual fan. They will bother you, a lot. But, I'd say he is an average SEC level DC. You could do a lot worse. Billy Napier gave Florida fans two and a half seasons of Sun Belt DC's getting reamed until Roberts came along.

Napier's bum DC.
And yet, massively better than Napiers two previous DC at Florida. When he took over mid season in 2024, the difference in the defense was stark.

What are you even talking about? This is something that happened over a decade ago and you're talking about LSU when he went to Alabama.
Can you not read? The name Muschamp didn't raise any flags?
re: Sumrall hiring Buster Faulkner for OC at Florida

It's always hard to guess how a coordinator will work out. But, I can barely remember the times I had no major complaints about a single coordinator hire, much less no complaints about both at the same time.
I guess we'll see how it goes. Sumrall may or may not work out in the end, but he at least didn't start off with a retarded first move like every UF coach since Meyer.
Muschamp- OC Charlie Weis
McElwain- OC Clarabelle(and Nussmeier)
Mullen- DC Grantham
Napier- OC Napier DC Toney

Florida failed Billy more than Billy failed Florida.
People on this forum are so predictable to be using outdated talking points. You might as well talk about UF not having an IPF.
Florida failed Dan Mullen(or maybe Mullen's soft skills failed Mullen for not getting the purse strings open). McElwain wasn't a good coach, but you might as well include him because he wasn't given the resources either.
Billy got everything Mullen wanted and much more. You can hear how angry it makes Mullen whenever he speaks about the Florida job.
If Sumrall had shown up talking about process and complimentary football, the UF fans would have run him out of town on the spot. He said exactly what he needed to say.
You can't use the same talking points of the previous failure of a coach. Napier was talking about process and complimentary football up until the week he was fired. Just hold on, the success is right around the corner, etc.

Napier got four seasons. When he was given the fourth season, he had a losing record. I forget, but he was like 2-3 games under .500.
Florida expectations are pathetic now.
