Tennessee is similar to Nebraska in my opinion. Good old school football factory that doesn’t have the advantages of yesteryear.

The State doesn’t produce enough talent and nobody really wants to go there. Nebraska is the same.

This is not glorious. Tennessee being terrible means 1 more guaranteed win on the schedule every year for LSU’s biggest competition in the division.

Alabama is already extremely difficult to beat and they are basically starting with a 1 game advantage in conference play every year.

This.

LSU fans like to bitch about the inequity of LSU having to play Florida was season, while Bama gets to play Tenn. But the reality is Tenn. was traditionally a stronger program than Florida. Unfortunately, they have entered the “dark ages” of their program at the same time Bama has had their resurgence (probably not a complete coincidence).

Tennessee used to be a power in the East. Now they are just hoping to compete with Bama, UGA, Fla.

It doesn't change the fact that LSU hired a head coach who many felt didn't have the skins on the wall to get the job. It seems like the people who felt that way may end up being wrong.

I was one of those people and I'm more than happy to be wrong. Still, based on what we knew at the time, it wasn't a good hire. Happily, it appears to be working out and I hope that continues. I really like this football team right now.

Yeah, but that team rebounded. UT has been stuck in neutral for a decade.

I never got the melt there. Schiano was a good college coach at Rutgers

He was average, at best. He had Ray Rice and rode him until he left. Schiano was smart and bailed before the bottom fell completely out. I’ll give him that. But he hasn’t had any success as a head coach since.

They do not have the home state recruiting base other SEC schools have and no longer have the national name appeal to attract recruits from around the country like they used to be able to do.

That used to be the case, but it’s actually starting to change. The influx of people into middle TN has boosted the number of FBS players coming out of the state. Memphis has also started producing a few more than in the past.

That was a grade A, tasty melt.

I was working in Nashville that day and it was crazy. I remember Clay Travis was on sports radio there when I got off work and was losing his damn mind. I stayed in my vehicle laughing at him for at least half an hour after I got back to the hotel.

Bama’s permanent rival. Hoover HS would offer a more competitive game. What a joke

While there is no excuse to lose to a Sun Belt team, at least Troy has had 3 consecutive 10 win seasons, and is an FBS school, albeit a G5 one. Georgia State is FCS, and a bad one at that, they were 2-10 last year.

The gap between Troy and Georgia State is almost as big as the gap between LSU and Troy SHOULD have been

They play Bama every year. We play Florida every year. It would be a benefit if Tennessee would improve to a point where Bama actually had to work a little harder to beat them. As of now we play Florida and Bama has two by weeks. The week before they play us and the week they play Tennessee.

I wasn't impressed w/ the Schiano "hire" when I first heard about it. I didn't think he really had much of a resume, even in the Big East: In eleven seasons at Rutgers, he was 68-67 overall w/ 5 losing season; he had one really good season (11-2) and that was in his 6th year; his conference record was 28–48. His two seasons in the NFL was disastrous at 11-21. OTOH, I didn't think Jeremy Pruitt was a good hire either, but after they way the hiring process was bothched, he was probably about as good as they could expect to get.

Did Shiano get any $ for UT breaching his hiring contract?

You'd have to go back to pre-Spurrier days (1990) for that to be true.

ETA; Since '90, UF holds a 22-7 lead.

Live in a UTk hotbed. Fan base has given up. It’s the most embarrassing loss I can think of in that programs history. Pruitt should be fired tomorrow. That can’t happen. You have to send a message.
