I think the real problem is that as the book progresses, the main characters greatly change, and that's not good for a TV series. GOT had the core group of POV characters that carried the novels, and the TV series. But if they followed the books faithfully, we'd barely have seen 1/2 the main cast this past season, which isn't going to work

The problem is it takes 24-30 months to build one.

To get to 5000, at the rate Lockheed builds them, it would have taken 8 years without firing a single one to get to that, and that's assuming best case production rate.
