My understanding is LSU is the most talented and the school has good music programs?

If you would've told us that we had the second largest band, I wouldn't have believed you. We must have suppressor's on all of our brass.

Really jealous of the SEC bands, particularly LSU’s. There’s currently a long thread on UNC’s 247 Premium site complaining about the current state of our Band. It’s only about 197 members and plays vanilla, boring music. The consensus is that UNC needs to put much more money into the Band to enhance the football game day atmosphere.

The SEC gets this and hence all of the good bands.

I enjoyed the TAMu marching, not the mus ic. Those cats did some pretty sweet stuff at halftime.

All allegiance to my Alma Mater out the window, LSU's is my favorite if for no other reason than Neck. Wish they could still play it.

I love our marching band, but sat close to LSUs a few years ago and they are great. Very good at getting the crowd involved through out the game.

The largest college marching bands are:

The Marching Royal Dukes of James Madison University - 500 members

The Marching Chiefs of Florida State - 470 members

The Goin' Band from Raiderland of Texas Tech - 450 members

The Redcoat Band of the University of Georgia - 440 members

University of Massachussetts Minueteman Marching Band - 415 members

The Famous Maroon Band of Mississippi State - 414 members

Purdue's All-American Marching Band is listed @389 members. You all have an excellent band, too.

I would think UGA has the higher quality musicians and School of Music.

ETA: lol at the LSU downvoters. I'm sorry that UGA is better.

I’ve hated LSU’s band ever since they wouldn’t shut up during the OTs.

As someone who marched in a SWAC band, I enjoy listening to LSU & UGA’s band.

It’s not the type of bands I’m used to, but you guys are awesome.

SC’s actually bottomed out in the early 2000s. The band had gotten small and lazy. I recall in 2010 seeing the same half time performance 3 straight games in a row and we were routinely getting blown away in our own stadium by other bands.

We grabbed a band director that had been at LSU and she totally turned it around. New uniforms, new pregame march, grew the size exponentially, and they just sound and look so much better.

Of the SEC Marching Bands, 7 have won the Sudler Trophy, which is described as the Heisman of the collegiate band world.

Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida & Texas A&M (wasn't a SEC team at the time).
