Mississippi State and South Carolina's bands play the least during games because they don't get priority over things being said over the PA system.

IMO the best college band I’ve ever seen is Talladega College from Alabama. They usually march in a few NOLA Mardi Gras parades and they are incredible. The Human Jukebox is my 1B.

The best college bands are in the Big 10 (minus the newest members). They are smaller, but mostly brass. Usually have innovative routines instead of showtune numbers.

It's not that so much as the steps they use. The B10 uses techniques that almost no one else in the country uses. POTS is the only SEC band that uses the "Chair Step" and tbh, very few outside of the B10 use it as it's demanding to say the least. We adopted it due to Dr. Julian's influence. We also use a strutting Drum Major which the B10 also uses.

POTS has been to more Presidential Inaugurations than any non-military/academy band.

Talledega is pretty good. I think that I would still give the nod to Southern.

Sorry, but that type of stepping looks like they're trying get their uw from sticking.
& drum majors look like they're cutting it close running to the bathroom.

I see they're doing 6/5 (6 steps/5 yds.). I thought marching was 8/5? Seems like that would get confusing being that you sync up with the end of a measure every 10 yds..

The largest college marching bands

Well, not in the SEC but Jacksonville State in Alabama has a HUGE marching band and they are very highly rated. I'm not much of a band fan, but they do an excellent job.

I think somewhere in the 450-475 range of members. My son who attends Jax St says that they have sections they swap out for different games since they are too large to get everyone on the field at one time and march effectively.

My stepson was in a JUCO band, and one of the competitions they're were in had Auburn's band there performing. I never cared about bands until my stepson was in one in college, and Auburn's band was really impressive.

Must make fb marching quite interesting to get your body in sync with the music & drills.

Unless you're marching at a 45 degree angle. Then it's 8 to 5.

6 paces every 5 yards is standard. When going diagonal (45 degree) it becomes 8 paces every 5 yards.

Assumption is a 30" step.

During a countermarch, you go from 2 step interval to close arm interval.
