The largest college marching bands are:

The Marching Royal Dukes of James Madison University - 500 members

The Marching Chiefs of Florida State - 470 members

The Goin' Band from Raiderland of Texas Tech - 450 members

The Redcoat Band of the University of Georgia - 440 members

University of Massachussetts Minueteman Marching Band - 415 members

The Famous Maroon Band of Mississippi State - 414 members

Purdue's All-American Marching Band is listed @389 members. You all have an excellent band, too.

I believe Jacksonville State has 562 members this year. They're one of the best marching bands in the southeast.

The best college band in the south is not in the SEC. None of them even come close to the Marching Southerners of Jacksonville State.

Yep

That was more painful than fingernails on a chalkboard....we were listening to the last OT on the radio in the car and it was even worse because you could not turn the volume down on the radio like you could the TV.

I really did not care who won the game but that ingratiating sound tipped me to be glad that A&M won the game.

Of the SEC Marching Bands, 7 have won the Sudler Trophy, which is described as the Heisman of the collegiate band world.

Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida & Texas A&M (wasn't a SEC team at the time).

As usual, the West dominates the East.

Regarding numbers. Many bands include all the peripheral flag wavers and twirlers etc. in their numbers.

ALL bands include them in their numbers if they have them.

Why not...they're musicians outside of "marching season" (fb season).

I’ve hated LSU’s band ever since they wouldn’t shut up during the OTs.

I usually love them and I hated them too (and so did the vast majority of LSU fans) sitting through that game. It was extremely annoying.

Our band don't look that cool, but they've probably got better meth.

Eventually the masses not actually playing instruments make the whole thing more of a marching hoard.

It is hard to say who is best, I mean how do you rate bands. I love our band and it seems that a lot of people around the SEC respect the "Golden Band from Tigerland" from reading this thread. But if there is a best band on the south it very well may be Jacksonville State, they are very impressive. I also love watching A&M, such precision in their formations and marching.

It was embarrassing, all of the good will and respect the Golden Band has built up through the years might have been totally wiped out during that game.

I love UGA, USC, and LSU's bands. Their "sound" is hard to beat. However, when it comes to precision formations, no one does it better than A&M's band.

Tennessee's band is also excellent and they are very, very good with formations, too.

Jacksonville State is good. The Human Jukebox at Southern University is something special.
