A&M isn't getting mentioned at all either and they still have a roster full of talent going into year 2 with Elko. Their conference schedule is very navigable, getting MSU, Arkansas, Auburn, and Mizzou. All "predicted" to finish in the bottom half
A&M was a sexy dark horse pick for years, but that team is just plain broken. They consistently beat teams they shouldn't, and lose to the cellar dwellers to compensate. 8-4 doesn't get you in the playoffs. I think the media is beginning to catch on ...

UF are currently 2nd tier SEC programs
More like 3rd tier
3 straight seasons of 7 losses was broken by a “break thru” 7-5 season from Gaylord Gaypier
That’s not second tier that’s 3rd or 4th tier

I dont really know anything about Florida. Would like to get them on our schedule…..
I am optimistic about OUs chances this year for a lot of reasons. But we are all undefeated right now…..
Reasons
QB
OC
QB coach
WR
RB
All above are top notch replacing what we didn’t have last year.
The OL is rebuilt and deeper than last year
Defensive Line unit and LB unit are rated as the best in the SEC by Steele..
This seems to be the year we have fixed deficiencies…..

How'd that work out for y'all with Jackson Arnold last year?
About the same it's going to work out for Auburn this year. Arnold wasn't a bust because of the SEC. He's a bust because he doesn't have any real QB skills.
quote:
Do you need me to spell it out? Your defense was 29th in PPG allowed and lost multiple NFL-caliber players in the 2025 NFL Draft (Stutsman and Bowman Jr)
Our defense was on the field all day every game because they had no help from any sort of offense, but keep staring at your tidy lil number sheet.
And losing two seniors isn't "multiple NFL caliber players". That's what YOU lost. Nice drama...
quote:
You conveniently leave out the 2024 Rebs had a two-year SEC starting QB and other All-SEC players ALREADY ON THE ROSTER when those portal players came to town. Your roster last year was filled with a bunch of chicken-shite players that lost to the likes of Missouri and Navy and barely broke the top 100 in scoring offense. Ole Miss won 11 games two years ago, then added a bunch of highly sought after portal players. Your situation and our situation aren't remotely similar.
I didn't leave anything out at all. Ole Miss spent a shitload on the portal to build an all mercenary team that would contend for the playoffs and you failed. YOU lost a shitload to the NFL draft and it is YOU, who are going to take a big step back, not us.
But you're right on one thing, our situation is not remotely similar to......... *checks notes*.......Ole Miss. I'll give ya that.

I’m always excited about the season at this point, and most years lately I’ve been disappointed, but I will say that it won’t be because of lack of talent if we shite the bed again. AU has players all over the field on both sides of the ball.
The dark horse is Vandy. Maybe not to win the league but they will be better than most people think. They return a ton of starters from a pretty good squad last year.

UF has 6 hard games on their schedule.
@LSU
@Miami
Texas
@Tamu
UGA

Hard for me to see more than 2 wins there.
We went 2-4 against that lineup last season...2 wins is likely, 4 is possible

All of them will be looking for a coach if it goes bad.

There is a difference between throwing for 3000 yards in a full season and starting 1 bowl before becoming a starter. In his bowl start JA was shown to be turnover prone. It really became amplified during the season.
This is a good question, but me being a homer, Ill say Oklahoma. The defense looks to stay on par with what we had last year. Our offense will be healthier which is a far cry from what we had last year.

I actually like Arkansas a lot this year. I think their QB combined with Petrino calling plays is a good mix for success. Definitely have to execute better, but if everything clicks I can see them winning 8 or 9 this year, maybe knocking off one of Notre Dame or Texas

If Auburn gets past Baylor and Oklahoma gets past Michigan, this might very well be determined on Saturday night, 9/20 in Norman.
The winner of likely 3-0 Auburn vs likely 3-0 Oklahoma would then get to 4-0, and that would surely go along way to making that team the big surprise team of the SEC.

Those 2 wins were at home last year. We only play 1 of those 6 games at home this year. This is going to be the problem. 4 Tough road games and Georgia at a neutral site while only Texas at home. It is hard as hell to win on the road in the SEC already.

Also A&M is my darkhorse. Absolutely no one is talking about them.

We will like lose @LSU(at Tiger Stadium is tough, I bet it will be at night too) and to Texas and verse Georgia, no way we win those games.
The other 3 I can see us winning.

People are way underestimating Austin Simmons. That guy is a stud, and I think he will do big things for Ole Miss.
Kiffin has a good record of reloading with transfers. I dont think they just go away.

Not sure if they're a true dark horse but I think LSU is going to do very well.

Oklahoma. Their defense will be stout. And I think Mateer may be the real deal.

Nobody is scared of a 21-17 coach that’s 0-3 in bowls
A line like this kinda reminds me of a section from Bootleggers Boy.
Following consecutive losses to Oklahoma State and Colorado, Switzer addressing the players in a team meeting said, "Boys, we got em right where we want em."
OU then reeled off three straight wins over Kansas State, Missouri and Nebraska to forge a three-way tie for first place in the Big 8 and would go on to obliterate Wyoming in one of those early Fiesta Bowls to finish the season at 9-2-1.

Something to ponder. QB is the biggest position on the field, I think most would agree.
Of the teams OU plays, a majority will be facing first time QBs. And I think most agree BV is a great D mind.
I look forward watching that aspect all season long. Last year Brent had to spend it mostly trying to fix a broken offense and managing injuries. This year he has a full offensive staff and the QB played for the OC. This will allow Brent to really focus on defense a majority of the time.
Our SEC schedule is set up nicer than last year. When we are road team at RRS, that means we get 4 true home games and only 3 true road games plus neutral rivalry game. Last year was 4 true road plus neutral and only 3 true home games.
With just competent offensive play it will allow defense to be more aggressive against a lot of new QBs. Should be a fun year. I predicted 9-3 a month ago and sticking with it. Whether that gets us in playoff discussion or not will depend on how close the losses are and who to.
