Sixty-eight commercials.
The next time you complain about sitting through a four-hour college football game, remember that TV has to get theirs. The average televised college game has an average of 68 30-second spots.
That's 34 minutes of "football" guaranteed before a ball is even snapped. You may not notice. If you have the right commercial-cutting recording device, you may not have to notice.
But that's the first thing to consider as college football games get longer. Those ads aren't going anywhere. The game is so popular on the front end (ratings) that it has to pay for itself on the back end (ad sales).
This past season, the average game length crept up to 3 hours, 23 minutes. That's six minutes longer than 2013, the largest one-year increase since 2007.

I'm surprised the number is that low. I thought it would be higher.

I don't care when I am watching the game on TV, but the interminable TV timeouts while at a game totally blow. I hate the red-hatted man with my whole being.

The average Bench McElroy thread is an abyss of shittiness.

They need to add one more.

Commercials always give me time to go refill my drink

I must say, I've pretty much reached the limit. I've noticed that I've gotten less and less tolerant of commercials, and have even cut my football watching WAY back. No longer do I watch much football that doesn't involve either the Saints or Tigers, when I used to watch pretty much all the SEC games I could, and NFL all Sunday.
I've just found I've got way better things to do than sit through a bunch of ads - like sitting on my porch and spitting.

I know I find myself saying.. Gee... I wish there was less football and no breaks for me to get another beer.
Also, commercials let you shite post on the rant.

Ever watch an entire game on youtube after all of the breaks and even huddle time have been edited out. You can literally watch an entire game in like an hour. Pretty neat way to review old games.

And I watch none of them.
The CBS games are the worst. Last almost 4 hours.

I feel the same way. I used to watch a lot more but now just choose 1 or 2 SEC games to DVR and watch without commercials and forget the rest and do something else.
Around two hours is just the absolute limit of time I'm going to spend watching a game.

Then it's the same number as "Wheel of Fortune."
I used to like that show, but over half of it is commercials or chit-chat.....

And they will take away even more snaps by extending the running clock.

I often start a game about 20-30 mins late, fast forward through commercials (and some of the halftime stuff), and am caught up and "live" by the third quarter.

This one gets it. Unless you want PPV pfor all games.
ETA That's pay per/for view for the Starkville folks.
Do you want to pay to watch or have the adversers do it for you. Where do you think th money comes from?

Don't bother me. They can stretch them out to 5 hours if they want.
