Seems like he should have been looking for the ball.
On an onside kick, I’ve never seen the ball hit someone on the kicking team in their hands and they try NOT to get the ball. He had no clue where he was on the field.

Cooley didn’t realize he was past 10 yards, tried to avoid ball that hit him in hands

Pretty sure that’s what happened. He could have just grabbed the ball. Total lack of awareness.
Did Ole Miss claim SEC Regular Season Co-Champ this year? Wondering about Lane’s Resume…

I know Ole Miss likes to do that. Just thinking that should go on our coach’s resume is Ole Miss claims it.

Ewell at Gettysburg was really terrible. From Google AI:
At Gettysburg, General Lee told General Ewell to take Cemetery Hill "if practicable" on the first day, meaning "if it's possible" or "if you can without a big fight," but Ewell, exhausted and new to corps command, decided it wasn't practical and didn't attack, allowing the Union to secure the crucial high ground, a decision often cited as a key turning point that shaped the rest of the battle. The phrase's vagueness allowed Ewell discretion, but many argue it reflected Lee's poor communication and Ewell's hesitation cost the Confederates the battle.
The "If Practicable" Order
Context: Late on July 1, 1863, after Confederates pushed Union forces back, Cemetery Hill remained undefended by the South.
Lee's Command: Lee instructed Ewell to seize the hill, adding the crucial qualifier, "if practicable," and not to bring on a general engagement.
Ewell's Decision: Ewell, facing tired troops and a strong defensive position, judged the attack impractical and held back, letting Union troops fortify the heights.
Significance & Controversy
Strategic Blunder: Many historians believe Ewell's decision allowed the Union to establish a strong, defensible position (the "fishhook") that proved difficult for Lee to dislodge in the following days, influencing the entire battle.
"Lost Cause" Narrative: The order became central to the post-war "Lost Cause" narrative, with some Southerners blaming Ewell for failing to emulate the aggressive Stonewall Jackson, who would have, they claimed, taken the hill immediately.
Communication vs. Command: The incident highlights a recurring criticism of Lee's command style at Gettysburg: his reliance on vague, discretionary orders rather than clear, direct commands, especially with new corps commanders like Ewell.

Tigerdroppings is bigger than the Finebaum show. He’s lucky we mention him here.

I actually thought it was pretty funny and totally fitting of the SEC Rant over the years.
Looking forward to seeing how LSU coaches do charity work over Christmas and lead Ole Miss into the playoffs. Not sure how much they can do, though.

Sad Ole Miss couldn’t do this themselves and needed our help, but I’m glad we felt generous. If, by some miracle, they won the title, should we hang a banner? Or half a banner? Or, just let them have it since they don’t have any championships at all, conference or national, in the modern era?
How far should our generosity go?

Notre Dame should join the Big Ten and be done with all the drama
Posted by AlaTiger on 12/8/25 at 7:34 pm
Who cares about Notre Dame anymore. Their last national title was like 37 years ago. They can have good teams there. They need to be in a conference.
No respect for the teams that opt out of bowl games.

You get an invite, you go, IMO.
What about the younger players? Those who aren’t staring? Development? Practice?
I also think that players should play in bowl games instead of opting out. Stick with your team. The season ends when the bowl game is gone.

Because he coached for Saban, is bought in on “the Process,” and fielded a team that reminded me of Saban’s teams.
re: That was no fluke. Bama fans, why did you hire DeBoer over Cignetti?
Posted by AlaTiger on 12/7/25 at 12:11 am to JamalMurry27
That was Sabanesque.
Felt like I was watching LSU in 2003.
Amazing. They just kept coming and never wilted. Incredible toughness and resolve.

Indiana is for real. That was amazing. Alabama could have used that toughness.
How did the heir to Saban end up at Indiana?

Every good up and coming position coach is looking to move on to something bigger. Look at Saban's coaching tree. Don't get too invested in coordinators or position coaches. If the Head Coach is good, he'll keep attracting talent
To be honest with you, that's tougher than some schedules I see in the SEC. At least they play real teams every week.
College Football should have kept old bowl games and have one title game after the bowls
Posted by AlaTiger on 12/3/25 at 11:12 pm
And we should have kept the old conferences too, but that's another discussion.
Bowl games and then a vote of coaches and media along with computers and rankings and record to choose a #1 and #2 for one more game after the bowl season. Everyone plays the bowl games related to your conference title or at-large berth and then have a vote and have one more game on January 8th or whatever. And that's it.
The excitement level would be much higher, the bowl games would mean something, and the regular season would mean more.
As it is, the excitement for the Playoffs is not what it should be. No one remembers a quarterfinal game played in Austin or Ann Arbor. It's never going to be like March Madness. So, what is it for?

NC State is a good basketball school. He can build something there. I’m not sure why he’d want to come to LSU. If he were still at McNeese, sure, but not now. Would be a lateral move, at best.
Kiffin ties together 20+ years of LSU football history

WR coach for USC under Pete Carroll in 2003 - not, LSU, but they were called co-champs by some. We’ll always be linked with that team.
OC under Saban at Alabama with Saban’s best teams. Gives him immediate credibility in Louisiana.
Coached with and good friends with Orgeron.
I was thinking about this when he called Carroll and Saban for advice. Include Orgeron in that and the cache in Louisiana and the connections are pretty deep. All that plus all the recruiting he’s done in Louisiana over the years.
Just thinking how different this is from the Kelly or Miles hires. We have someone who is totally connected with the South and SEC football, and through his mentors, experience, and being on the opposing sideline, LSU.
Feels good.

Sumrall abandoned Tulane right before a playoff berth after a historic season. Outrage?
Posted by AlaTiger on 12/1/25 at 10:50 am
I’m missing the outrage about Florida poaching Tulane’s coach right before they get a playoff invite, as they are poised to get.
Where is the furor?
The problem with all this is the early signing day. The NCAA needs to fix this immediately.

Tulane in line for a Playoff berth with as much chance to win it all. Where’s the outrage?

Sumrall left for Florida in the midst of a historic season for Tulane right before a potential playoff berth.
Waiting for the outrage to begin.
Oh wait, that only happens for LSU and not Florida? Gotcha.

I saw this, I’m almost positive a producer scripted that for them. This makes no sense. They want a narrative. By Wednesday, they’ll be on to the next thing.
