The Athletic - Kiffin targets Saban ($)
UPDATE : Per the AL.com Alabama beat writer
quote:
Lane Kiffin is gunning for Nick Saban.
It’s been nearly three years since Saban unceremoniously fired Kiffin, his offensive coordinator, two days after Alabama beat Washington in the 2016 College Football Playoff semifinal at the Peach Bowl. Saban fired Kiffin a week before the national championship game. Kiffin was embarrassed. Kiffin was angry. Kiffin hasn’t forgotten.
That dismissal fueled Kiffin’s desire to return to the SEC and a burning passion to exact revenge on Saban, multiple people with knowledge of the matter told The Athletic. Now that he’s the head coach at Ole Miss, he sees the chance to do so.
quote:
In his biggest coup attempt, Kiffin offered Alabama strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran an on-the-field coaching position to try to steal him from Saban, multiple people close to the Alabama program told The Athletic.
quote:
Those same people said Kiffin also has interest in Alabama secondary coach Karl Scott, former Alabama defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi and former Alabama defensive line coach Bo Davis, among others.
quote:
Now he has a chance to pay back Saban — both on and off the field. Kiffin is attempting to raid Saban’s staff both present and past. He’ll also target Saban on the recruiting trail, said multiple people who spoke to The Athletic.

Lane Kiffin has not offered Scott Cochran a job at Ole Miss at this point, per sources.
While there are relationships there, I'm told it's extremely unlikely Cochran or Tosh Lupoi will end up at Ole Miss.

Saban will be gone in a year or two anyway so it doesn't matter.

So he wants to make Saban quit? This will be fun either way.

I sure hope Kiffin doesn't try and steal Pete Golding. That would be the nail in our coffin. A huge coup!

I just like the hire based of the entertainment factor alone

He already banged his daughter, now this?

Imagine losing to O, Kiffin, and Gus in the same year. I believe Nicholas would jump off the Paul Bryant bridge

Glad to see Freshwater back in the SEC to troll Saban... and his daughter

lulz. It'll be like Mouammar Kadhafi trying to stand up to Reagan.

This makes for a nice story, I'm sure.
The kernel of truth is probably that Kiffin saw that despite the battleground that is the SEC West, Bama could be beat by teams like Ole Miss if all of the tools were properly assembled and used.

This is very true
He wants to be in the "cool CFB journalist club" so badly

I don't buy it but there will be no sympathy for Saban as the program comes back down to earth.

The Cochran stuff makes this hard to believe. What position are you going to allow a career strength and conditioning coach to take over?
I mean seriously. He’s not some “strength coach” in name only for a former player to be on staff.

Is this story pretty much confirmed at this point? What was Sabans "official" reason for firing him

Calling a play during the Peach Bowl that we literally didn't didn't have in our 2016 playbook had something to do with it.
