I have been surprised how Kiffin has been so repeatedly complimentary of Saban since he got hired here. I figured the two loathed each other

I guess he’s playing the long game, which shows how much he’s wised up since his Tennessee days

I think part of that article is true - he does know that talking shite publicly about Saban does him no good. He's clearly more savvy on when to use his sarcastic assholery and when not to. I also think he does truly appreciate what Saban did for him. He was as toxic as a bin of nuclear radiation when Saban gave him that job. But I'm sure they also butted heads quite often and I know that Saban pretty much told him to find another job after 2016, that the experiment had reached the end of the road.

Mixing two highly competitive, big ego guys with clashing styles and personalities was always going to cause head butting, but I think all in all they had a good run. I don't think they hate eachother or anything.

Im assuming that Lane would get a gig at some point but i think Lane understood that he has benefitted from being on the big stage in TTown and the...risk ..probably not the best word..but ...the risk that Nick took in that move. lane Failed at Oakland....Ditched UT after a yr...stranded on a tarmac in LA after an embarrasing whoppin in AZ..not a stellar 6 or so yrs. And then gets a gig calling plays in TTown which lead HC on SFLa and his ability there lead to HC and 4MM? In Oxford. The separation may have been awkward but there has to be respect and appreciation there

Between trying to sabotage Saban and trolling MSU, this is the most fun league hire in years. Can't wait. Ole Miss now has millions of people paying attention and rooting for them. It's an absolute home run hire IMHO.

It’s not so much I’m surprised he didn’t come straight out guns blazing talking shite. What I am more specifically talking about is he has over and over said things here and there complimentary of Saban, way more so that any other coach/program he’s mentioned. I can understand keeping your mouth shut, but deliberately talking about him in what I consider a higher than expected volume is surprising.

I think he learned how to be a head coach while in Tuscaloosa. He was always very talented at the other stuff (recruiting, play calling, QB teaching) but he didn't have a grasp for how to structure a program, be consistent, etc. I don't think that was one of Pete Carroll's strongsuits, and while what he did worked I'm not sure it was really a transferable skill - and all of his proteges had similar all over the place issues in their first head coaching jobs (Kiffin, Sark, Orgeron).

I think Kiffin figured out structure and program management from Saban, and I think the more he implemented it at FAU and the more results he saw the more he realized how much Saban and Alabama had helped him.

That's just my opinion, though.

This is why Arkansas should have done everything in their power to sign him. Arkansas is going on a decade of not even coming close to beating Alabama or even Texas A&M.

Arkansas has passed that decade up already. It is inching nearer to two decades.

100%. And his gratitude seems genuine.

I appreciate Kiffin’s confidence, but it’s nice to see him tempering it with gratitude/humility. From every interview I’ve seen with him so far you just get the impression he’s ready to let his results do the talking and the false bravado is gone.

Agree - he seems to have found the perfect mix of still being himself and yet being a leader.

I really think he's going to do a hell of a job there. Can't wait to come try and steal him in 3 years .

LOLOLOL the AL.com beat writer for Alabama just tweeted this

Lane Kiffin has not offered Scott Cochran a job at Ole Miss at this point, per sources.

While there are relationships there, I'm told it's extremely unlikely Cochran or Tosh Lupoi will end up at Ole Miss.

How can you fire someone that already quit?

Telling someone who quit to just go ahead and leave now is not firing them.

Funny you say that because Alabama never said he was "fired". They just said he was moving on to be FAU's full time head coach.

However, Lane wanted to coach the championship game and Saban told him he couldn't, so I'm not sure what else you call that. Early release for bad behavior?

Every coach in the SEC has been gunning for Saban the last decade. Never been a Kiffin fan and dont think he will have 10 win seasons at ole miss.

Interesting considering Aaron Suttles stated that he was offered an on the field coaching spot
